REMEMBERING Tim Scruggs

I find it most interesting that so few of my colleagues (cuemakers) have taken time to acknowledge the death of one of the nicest cuemakers in the industry - Tim Scruggs.

How sad that Tim has left this world having made such a positive influence on so many and yet "they" are silent in remembering this true gentleman. Tim had lost his mother, his wife and his partner, Mike - there was no one else - WE were his family. Perhaps this will be a wake up call to members of the ACA and others to reflect on how THEY want to be remembered and will publicly post on Tim's passing - as a small tribute to the man.

Let me also take a moment to add that I am not without fault in failing to post publicly on the passing of Bert Schrager and Tad Kohara both of whom I knew personally and admired for their commitment to the craft - my apology for not acknowledging their role in making the world of cuemaking a better place.

Well stated Paul,

On behalf of the the whole Josey family and myself, I express heartfelt condolences to all that were close to Timmy. I know Keith truly admired Tim not only as a cue maker but as a colleague, mentor, and friend. He learned a lot from him and since he and Sherri are not on these forums I take this opportunity to send their deepest thoughts on their behalf. RIP TIMMY

This is sad news indeed. Tim was one of the easiest to talk to cuemakers I have met. I actually met Tim before I started building cues one of the early BCA shows. I was surprised at how nice and encouraging he was, when I told him of my plans to start building and selling a cue repair lathe. Some other cuemakers were not so encouraging.

My condolences go out to his family.

Something I read on a forum thread yesterday made me wonder if he had passed away sometime ago whithout me hearing about it, but I had not heard for sure Tim Passed away until just now. Can you give me details so I can pass it along to our ICA cuemaker members?

The legacy of a man....or woman.....is truly how they are remembered.........we depart this world sans all our earthly possessions and material things we've accomplished.
We leave behind family and friends who will recall and remember how we lived our life and affected theirs in turn........it's all about being remembered otherwise our journey
here on earth was without genuine purpose and meaning. Tim Scruggs will be remembered for his accomplishments as a great cue-maker and persons that were fortunate
to have Tim as a friend, those folks will remember him for being a great man first and also recall he just happened to make amazing pool cues as well.

I envy those whom have met Tim......I am jealous of some that own Scruggs pool cues.......and I am proud to say I have one of Tim's cues.

One fine gentlemen & a great person. will be sadly missed in the cue industry. never heard Tim say a bad word about anyone.

I was fortunate enough to have met Tim @ SBE
I sat down and talked with him about 20 mins. while a documentary was being done about him.
He was easy to talk to, very knowledgeable & forthright.
My thanks to Tim for all he did for the industry.

A fabulous cue maker but an even better person, Timmy always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. I was talking to Bob Frey the other day about it and he said he just sat and cried when he heard the news, he said he'd known Timmy since they were 6 yrs old. I mentioned to Bob that I didn't know Timmy was sick and he said he really didn't want many to know, he didn't want to trouble anyone. A truly sad loss for the world of pool.

Things I remember

One at a time.
He had his own forest he farmed his own wood from! Tim didn't. But he laughed about it now and then. He was short on shaft wood and remarked Mike was out cutting down some of Tim's trees in his personal forest that were for shaft wood. He said it jokingly but soon enough every one was buzzing about Tim's private forest.
The legend was growing.

As many Scruggs cues as you have owned don't kid yourself, you invested well for Timmy. How many TS cues have you had in your collection.... 100??? or more???? Mr. Scruggs will be missed by many, add the other builders listed sorry to say.
