You & I both would probably forget the "rules" like RA did if we were to play in it. They're so far fetched there's no way that we could remember them. We're "trained" to play the right way...

If your opponent doesn't pocket a ball, you get ball in hand... I like that action and I don't even play anymore!

Oh dear lord, if they dont' quit giving up the break I'm going to have to turn the channel! LOL

They do that to speed it up on the final round only.

It is amazing the rule changes you can remember if they are giving you a one in four shot of winning 20,000 dollars.

Tis true!!!

LMAO, I love the analogy Ewa just used.. "this is mapquest right here" LOL

The set was actually really neat. I wondered what the WPBA televised match might look like playing on a floor that lit up like Saturday Night Fever. The table was an absolutely beautiful black and chrome Gold Crown IV with Simonis cloth.

I meant to mention that earlier... I didn't see the floor but the table was gorgeous.

Well, congratulations to the Cowboy Dude, and to the other participants, but that was a pretty tough watch. I hope the league players enjoyed it, and I wish those at Ballbreakers every possible success. Even the normally composed Ewa Laurance had a hard time taking this seriously.

Rather than calling this "BALLBREAKERS", I'd have called it "SCUBA DIVING" as so much of it was below "C" level.

If that was the calibur of players they were looking for they could've at least called it "BallBangers". Girlwon1... maybe they're not going to show the one you were in because you played too good?!?!?

Again, it is unfortunate that what TV and the media wants to put out there is this view of pool, in relation also to the thread about Jeanette. The producers know that this will work for the masses, because for the most part, the masses do not know about the upper crust of pool's elite, or even a level possible 10 times below that. They do not know that all of us that play pool today are not hustlers, or that we can really beat their father or grandad that used to be the City Champion years back. I can't tell you how many times after I tell someone that I play, that they respond with - so are you a hustler, or you think your good, or do you know Janet, (?!!) the Black Widow? Invariably, these are 100 percent of time the three questions I get. Until that changes, until something breaks it wide open, the media will fall back on the perception that is widely conceived by most.

We all know there is something the general public is missing, we know we see so much more than they do not. If they did, a pool room would turn into what the local poker room did for me. Back just 6-7 years ago, I used to walk into a tournament at the poker room 5 min before it started and sit right down. Now, I have to get there an hour and a half earlier just to get a seat. The pool room could be just like that. We just have to find what works, and then open the public's eye to the greatness of all the we love already. I have to still say that I still like to see some pool on tv, no matter what it is so much, than in the 90's, seeing nothing at all. We have to get it started.

You know, how it worked out, I only got to shoot literally 5 shots and I was out. I made sure I won that lag, it is all important to do so since you have control and get to pick first. I chose the girl who couldnt play at all, bet almost half my stack (which I was overjoyed that she accepted the bet), and then proceded to break the balls and didnt make anything. She flew at the 9, pocketed it 3 rails, and then there is half my stack.
The next thing that happens, is that I now have to play an elimination game, I get to shoot at the one since the guy didnt make anything on the break, and then ran 5 balls only to get to a unbreakable cluster at the footrail that I couldnt play safe on, but had to try to bank, bang at the 6 to make something happen. I ended up leaving him dead out. That was that for me. I was really disappointed, because sincerely with no ego I say that I was the best player than the rest present, but just didnt have a shot. It didnt work out for me.

I agree. While waiting for the dog to tend to his "business" I had time to ponder the show & came to the same realization. If we want to see pool on tv and apppeal to the masses, this is what we're going to have to accept.

Having both played pool and being friends with some of the pro's, I know exactly what you mean about the comments. The two things I hear all the time is, "hustler" and "black widow". I was at an Indy car race in Richmond waiting in line talking to an older gentleman (70's??) who worked for one of the sponsors. We were discussing our interests and when I mentioned pool, he asked me if I had ever heard of the black widow... seems the company had her do a private exhibition at the Indy race track or something like that. I was recently on my way to the predator tourney in FL and when the person next to me on the plane asked about my destination and I told them I had some friends playing in a pro tournament that I was going to watch, their response was "I bet they're good hustlers".

To be honest, I'm fine with the level of players they chose, and there was, of course, a big luck factor. I'm sorry it didn't work out better for you. Obviously, a really serious player isn't the target audience here, but I still watched with a very open mind and with an air of optimism, hoping for a show that would serve the sport well. If they wanted to select average "league type" players, they made good choices. Nonetheless, what's up with the sharking? Players were talking while opponents shot yet they were competing against each other for $20,000? The message would seem to be that even the average league players won't maintain their dignity if there's a lot of money to be made. That's not a very positive message to send out to anyone who cares about pool. The sharking and woofing would have been fine between racks but not during the play.

To those in TV Land, there really is such thing as pool WITH sportsmanship.

I don't doubt for a min that you were the best on there. But, anyone can win a race to one, esp when you've got ballbangers rolling the 9 everytime they get to the table.

he gave up the break everytime, and STILL won 20 grand......wtf.

VAP

if you are a C player or below, the breaks are a disadvantage. You will almost never break and run and 95% of the time you turn an open table over to your opponent.

I think Karma is a big factor in who wins this type of contest.
