Is that the same pin they use on Omega DPK?
Yes, Rick was mentored by Ray Hernandez, who was the last cue maker at Omega DPK. Mike Bender had already went out on his own. Rick established Esoteric Cue in 2004'.

When you look at the cue makers that have come out of the greater Chicago area, over the last 50+ years, not only do you see excellent workmanship, you see "out of the box" creativity. Rick, in my opinion has improved on the 3/8-14 joint to where thru his research, he uses a "Garolite Le" insert, which makes it virtually impossible to degrade the shaft threads.

Hi,

Steve has been recieving emails with pics asking us to accept a trade cue and they would pay the extra cash to upgrade. Sorry, we are not interested in taking any horse trade offers as we know is very common in our industry.

Although some of these offers especially featuring Southwest cues in trade are very appealing, we are not in a position to know the secondary market apraisal values. It is not what we do.

So thank you for these generous offers but we must respectfully decline them.

Rick

Hello again from Airport Steve, here in Las Vegas.

My screenname on AZ Billiards is “John Oxygen” Independent broker of Esoteric Cues. This week I bring a new offering, which I personally think is truly unique.

Esoteric Cue #249 for your review. Rick really hit this one with the fat part of the bat!

Cue is built on a 6 pt./60 degree geometry. 3 hi - 3 low. Full core construction, no A-joint bolt. 3/4 in. laminate dowel, thru the whole butt.

This beauty is loaded with sterling silver & elforyn super tusk inlays!! Not to mention 18 triple compound inlays, for each end of the barbells. North of 170 including the dots. All of these stunning inlays are set into, a beautiful piece of ebony in the butt sleeve and forearm.

The butt sleeve has, 3 elongated super tusk, notch diamonds, flanked by 3 triple sterling silver bars, which connect to 3 amboyna burl inlays. Rick inlayed super tusk badges, into the burl, then finishes off with a sterling silver dot. The butt sleeve has a total of 12 super tusk badges, and 24 sterling silver dots and a beautiful .030 sterling silver separation ring, adjoining the super tusk butt cap. Make sure to take a look at the feature at the end of of the butt cap. Truly unique.

The forearm of this flawless cue, says WOW!! 15 triple inlayed amboyna burl barbells, flanked to the left and right by 3 elongated notch diamonds. Rick then, pulls out all stops, and inlays 3 sets of long triple sterling silver bars. Virtually all of the sterling silver bars in this forearm are connected by the amboyna burl inlays. We have 12 super tusk badge inlays, 6 upper, 6 lower. 24 sterling silver dots, and .030 sterling silver separation ring at the joint collar. The elforyn super tusk joint is married up to a 3/8-14 stainless steel pin. Rick finishes off the butt with an absolutely stunning embossed brown leather Croco wrap.

The two shafts are made of high quality Canadian select hard rock maple, with elforyn super tusk collars, super tusk ferrules, measuring, half an inch, with a flex point of 6.75 inches. Rick finishes off the shafts with a matching .030 sterling silver separation ring, complimented with 6 super tusk compound inlay badges, and 6 sterling silver dots orbiting the badges into black juma.

Kamui clear black medium tips have been installed. Rick always “case hardens” all of his tips and seals all of his ferrules. The tips last longer, play better and the ferrules never get ingrained with chalk.

This cue, really is special. The butt feels so good when you drop down into a stance, with the 19 ¼ in. front balance point. The cue rolls perfect, together or apart. Bottom line, this cue has EYES!!

Hello Airport Steve,

I remember you from the day down in Florida over 30 years ago.. Are you still playing?

Nice to see that Rick found someone with talent who can describe his cue so well. Before he moved to Vegas all Rick's cues were sold by word of mouth connections only. He never had a website or other sales tools. I used to enjoy driving down to his shop and watching him build my cues.

This Freaking Cue is over the Top! Rick's attention to details gives 98% of the cuemakers the 6 ball for sure.

If I did not already own 2 monsters built by Rick, my Paypal would be ponying up some bread stat!

Good morning Jake, I’m trying to remember I had actually quit playing in 1991 when I quit smoking and Went to work. I still was involved with Cues up north in upstate New York in New Jersey Pennsylvania Connecticut but I wasn’t actively playing at all. I think I decided to play when I went back to Florida in the summer of 1994 and Dennis Searing was with Kim Caso And he made me a plain Jane sneaky Pete with two shaft August 1994. In which I went on the road with that cue up to Pennsylvania and then up around New York and then actually back out to Las Vegas after Christmas of 1994. When I got out to Las Vegas I was playing the cue played real good nobody really knew who Dennis Searing was.

Dennis charged me $250 it wasn’t just a run-of-the-mill sneaky Pete you got a nice buck cap it at piloted joints with fiber phenolic collars. I ended up going off in the casino or the sports book and I had another cue that Dennis converted a Dufferin and he completely refinished and made bumperless with a stainless steel Allen pin into a black Juma butt cap.

Like I said earlier, I went off in the sports booking needed money and sold both Cues for $600 at the Andy Mercer bar table classic at the rum Runner in March 1995. I played up until the end of 95 I came back to Florida and ended up quitting pool and going to work for good first of the year 1996 never to return to pool I wasn’t even around the brokering of pool cues or anything. Then it was 2010 almost 15 years later and I tried to play and I was down in Florida to visit relatives and I saw Dennis. Dennis asked me what happened to the sous chef sneaky Pete that he made me? I said I got short on cash and ended up selling it to Cues at the Andy Mercer bar table tournament years back 15 years ago he says, the cue is worth a lot of money if you ever find a cue. I said how much is it worth? He said it could be worth as much as 5000. I said why. He said he made an error on that Cue. He said he never signs sneaky Pete’s, that’s the only sneaky Pete he ever signed and he signed it by accident. D. Searing 8/94 Needless to say I have no idea where the cue is. The guy I sold the cue was like a B player that got around on a moped. He didn’t say much he bought the Cues gave me the $600 and took off maybe put them in his apartment or wherever he was living. I never saw them again.

Were you originally from Chicago, and that’s how you know Rick? It’s a small world I’m gonna be 65 in a couple of months but I tried to play some but it’s not the same struggling with tendinitis in my shoulder my stroke shoulder. But I live in a senior development now and we finally got some diamond tables here after lobbying for a long time so that’s good. Ricks a good guy very meticulous and how he builds Cues. The Sterling is really a masterpiece and it actually hits good and plays good because it’s got that slender but with the parabolic taper and a real good front balance at 19 1/4 inches. Anyway I gotta get started here and do some chores. Thanks for reaching out. I’ll let Rick know that you responded. try to jog my memory Where we know each other. Bye for now.

Best Refards,

Steve
