Working around broken slate screws can be a real hassle when trying to do a top notch slate set. To me it is irritating that mechanics/technitions leave broken slate screws for the next guy to deal with (the customer/player sure didn't break them off!)
Broken slate screw in Brunswick frame

Here is a neat little tool for quickly removing broken off slate screws from table frames.
Screw extractor in cordless drill

The screw can then be plucked out.
Removing screw with needle nose pliers

The cool thing is, this bit leaves a really clean hole that is easy to fill with a dowel or plug and then chiseled or sanded off. One warning; if you put a new slate screw into wet glue, it will be a XXXXX to get out.
Clean hole can be filled with glued dowel

I found these at Woodworker's Supply (1-800-321-9841) for around $17 each. Part numbers are 118-323 for 1/4", 118-331 for 5/16", and 118-349 for 3/8".
They come in different sizes

Hope this helps someone out.
