Removing nicks

Same as shafts/butts I have nicks in some canes. Oak and hickory. I’d like to remove them. I know steam is used… is a pin point steamer used. What are some techniques. Thanks.
 
I used to scuff the dent so the pores were open and take a the corner of wet cloth, put it on the dent and then put a clothes iron on the wet corner. Just heat it a couple seconds at a time. Should work well depending on the size/ depth of the dent. I did that when first learning repairs, I do it differently now.

I wouldn’t try it if it’s laminated.

Yes use pin point steam right onto the dent. Rough it up with sand paper first so there is no finish or sealer in the dent.
