Replacing metal joint with ivory

I'm going to say no. Going from SS to ivory drops an ounce in the front.

I would say no, it will change it though, - if the change is to your liking however...
The balance will change.

I wouldn't do it.Ivory is more tempermental in adjusting to temperature change. It chips
and to many things can go wrong. It softens the hit alot,so if your into a stiff feel, you'll
lose that as well.

Dont do it!!

This is not easy to do, I don't care who tells you it is! Yes it can be done, but the joint has to be heated up in order for the metal to be removed.

It can go BAD FAST and if it does the cue will explode. It does not matter how good the cue repair or maker is, this is..., this is major surgery. So if you really like your cue your taking a chance, you've been warned!

Agreed, i wouldn't do it. A lot could go wrong and if you are really trying to improve the hit of the cue that much than maybe you need a different cue. I personally wouldn't have an ivory joint on a daily player with the exception of a few makers.

Will going to an ivory joint significantly improve the hit of my cue...................

This question should not be worded this way. You may ask "will I like an ivory joint better" or "how will an ivory joint change the feel of the cue", but not if it will "improve" it. If you like how an ivory joint hits, then yes. If you never played with an ivory joint, then no.

It's only an improvement if you like the feel of the joint. This is a bit like asking us if we thought changing your wallpaper would improve the look of a room. Who knows? Maybe I hate wallpaper no matter what it looks like, or maybe you hate orange whales with a blue sky background but I love it and think you should do that for your living room.

And like the other said, you don't want to modify an existing cue this way anyway.

If you're looking to simply change the hit and feel of your cue, the effect different tips have has always been an under estimated factor in my opinion. Try experimenting with different tips and hardness.

this and hang-the-9's first 2 paragraphs are great answers. the collar can be changed, the hit will change, you may or may not like the result, the balance will.... change so slightly that you probably will not feel a difference but you will probably feel the weight difference more, those that don't think ivory should be used will scream profanities at you, the hit will be softer and you will feel it because you were aware of how the cue felt before and therefore the "you can't tell the difference" reference is misplaced, and what you want to do with your cue is your business and there are cuemakers that can and will change the collar, but none of this will make you play any better unless something inside you like the lighter weight and softer hit and resonates with how you hit the cue ball giving you more confidence and lets the inner demon come out and crush your opponents. Pool is a wonderful thing isn't it.
