How did he get from the 4 to the 5?? Looks like the cue ball hit below 15 and reversed back to center table..what english was that? low right?

Anyway never seen that 2 rail shot

We talked about this shot a few days ago:

They call it "straight pool" in Belize. A popular game there and throughout Central America. I think they play it ring-style.

An early shot caught my eye - going from the 4 to the 5 he took an unusual route, going two rails instead of the usual 3, reversing off the 2nd rail. I think he must have hit the 4 a little rail first, purposely or accidentally. Either way it's a pretty shot.

Still not sure how hitting the rail first would make the cue ball reverse off of the second rail...does this mean he hit the cue ball into the rail first with right english, and upon contacting the ball ("2nd rail"), the cue ball spin reversed to left-english, hence went up table after contacting the last rail?

Edit- yes, right is on the ball, but it's not actually english. This is the great buddy hall's SPINglish. :yawn:

Basically, the contact point keeps the cue ball from traveling forward after impact with the (4?) ball, an then...the spin really bites into the opposite side's rail because there is no forward roll.

And I also think speed plays a part too, slower into the 2nd rail will get more reverse, though without both correct spin and contact point, ya gets nothin.

Hitting rail first allows him to use right English without spinning down to the end rail - the CB hits the rail, then caroms of the 4 almost straight across the table, where the right English reverses the CB's direction.

The same technique can be used in other situations too. For instance, in the pic below you'd usually use high left or low right to get from the 1 to the 2, but with those routes blocked you can also use low left as shown, if you hit rail first to get the CB straight across table.

I like the way he banked the 7-ball....he didn't WATCH it fall...he..LISTENED for it.
He certainly plays a lot better than he chalks...:eek:
