I switched to Artemus Rubber several years ago but was never happy. I had Mark Gregory recently redo my Centennial using Brunswick Super Speed rubber, rebuilding the under rails, Tournament Green Simonis 860 HR, pockets are like a mm over 4 1/2". The table is now "Live".

Very Nice Phil... I put super speed on mine as well but the rubber is getting old. Needs cloth too which I have (Granito).. I'll take it apart do it this fall for sure...
 
Another great looking centennial! Mark seems to be sending them all to FL.

I'm curious, Phil, What didn't you like about Artemis?
I was thinking of converting a table to Artemis, but it involves some modification.

I've had good and bad SuperSpeed....it aint like the old GC 1 rubber.

First, PT, I like your posts!

I am not a table mechanic, but I know what I like. The artemis did not seem to have the life of superspeed. My first table was a Non Paraliel Novelty circa 1880. It was set up with super speed and believe it or not the table played and plays fast and solid. I stored that table in a spare room because guys complained it was 3" higher than a modern table.

I owned the Centennial, bought and restored by Time After Time. Several years ago I wanted it to play more like a Diamond and requested Mark partially redo the under rails and convert the rubber to Artemis Continental 55. My idea, not a good one. The table just did not feel right and I did not feel the rubber had the life. It could have been the angle, it could have been in the under rails not set right, I do not know.

When I discussed it with Mark he said he felt we should go back to super speed but he also fully redid the under rails and fixed a crack. While it is less than two weeks I like the way it is breaking in and the 860 HR seems great. Previously I always had just Simonis 860.

Mark cannot respond, but maybe real King Cobra might have insight based on what i have said here. If you table is Brunswick, my recommendation is Superspeed. I have had great mechanics and a couple bad ones. The mechanic has alot to do with the playability i think more than the components. They are worth $$$ All the best

Table and room look terrific.

I, too, am curious over the Brunswick Superspeed because I had two sets of 'modern' Superpeed sets installed and they both developed hard spots in numerous areas and that was it for me with those. I figured it had to be to do with the fact they are made in China nowadays and that the rubber was a lot different than the old days when brunswick cushions lasted many decades.

I will be curious to see how these do over time.

I did end up getting the Artemis and couldn't be happier with the playability.

I hope your set will perform well for decades. :)

Thanks, BTW, your post are always good too. If i recall you have a GC...didn't RKC redo it? Note in my comments to PT I mentioned my experience may have been set up. Time will tell. I am 68, so If I get DECADES of play, after the second decade I will pay for new rubber for everyone!:smile: My Non Paraliel Novelty was up with Super Speed from 96-2008 and played fabulous. When i wanted the Artemis on the Centennial I wanted a more Diamond like play. I concluded I should have bought a Diamond, however, I like my Centennial and on table stored in a spare room is enough.

I've lost a lotta faith in the brand Brunswick SuperSpeed in the last two decades, Brian.
A friend opened a room with brand new Gold Crown 111s ( got a deal because the 1Vs
were out )....the rubber went dead in 3 or 4 years.
Then it was time to do a GC1 at our place....I bought the rubber myself.....
...I could've bought cheap rubber for $36....I bought the SuperSpeed for $140....
...( in the trade prices ))....the rubber lasted like the $36 rubber...:angry:

Well, the mechanic said Brunswick wasn't cheating on the rubber anymore and we didn't
want to pay for extra labor to use Artemis ( you may recall the thread I started )...
....It is better rubber but the rails play a bit short...the contact point is a shade low.

We can't get the original GC1 rubber anymore.

I use the standard 3 rail kick...( learned it from Allen Gilbert )...and the table banks three
quarters of a diamond short.

You points are well taken. Mark did both set ups, the first with the Artemis and this one. He said he needed to have built up the under rails more with the Artemis, however, he suggested that he rebuild them and we go to SuperSpeed now. From 1996-2008 I had no problems with my other table with the SuperSpeed. what is done is done. For health reasons I could not play much from 09 until recently. I am ok now so I hope to get back in stroke so I can make a somewhat authoritative judgement.
