Retapping a shaft

I have a question for they cue makers out there. Would it be feasible to take say an old 3/8-10 shaft, change out the collar and convert it to a piloted 5/16-14.

oh and of course would there be a problem to make it perfectly centered.

It shouldn't be a problem if the shaft doesn't have any abnormal issues.

The shaft is right at .843 the butt end that it would be going to is .838 -

pretty close - not sure how much thickness the finish normally gives.

Doesn't sound too difficult for a competent Cue Tech. For best results, he will need your butt and shaft for a few days to match the joint diameters perfectly. There are several/many such Cue Techs in the Houston area I believe.
