Rethread 314-2

My buddy got a 314-2 in 3/8x10 with the standard phenolic insert. His cue pin is 3/8x11. Can the predator shaft just be rethreaded to 3/8x11, or does the insert need to be filled and redone?

Yes it can be done if you have a Tap. You may be able to just cut new thread in the wood or existing insert or it may have to be plugged with a dowel bored and re-tapped.


When going from 5/16 - 18 to 5/16 - 14 all you have to do is re-tap the existing insert, but I have done 3/8 -10 to 3/8 -11.

I strongly suggest that you install (or have installed) a phenolic plug
and start fresh.
Double threading a hole is never a good idea.
I swap threads in Predator shafts quite often.
This swap on this shaft requires a phenolic plug to be done correctly.
It's relatively easy to do and well worth the effort.
