Retipping Mezz PB2

I was practicing my break a little earlier today and the tip came off of my Mezz PB2. I happened to catch it on video (see link at bottom), not that it was anything special.

Do these cues need any special attention when retipping? I think I'm maybe one of two or three guys in the whole city with one of these cues, so I don't really trust the local cue smiths to know.

This may also be a dumb question, but the tip and tip plate seem to be in good condition. It looks like it was only the adhesive that failed. Is it a good idea to simply sand the two surfaces (carefully) and reglue the tip myself?

it will be hard to glue the tip back onto the shaft as it will be nearly impossible to get it to line up perfectly. best to install a new tip and trim it to fit. there's nothing particularly different on the mezz shaft, other than it uses a tip pad and it's own proprietary tip. you can buy the white tip pad and sonic tip from mezz usa. i've also put on other tips, both with and without the tip pad on these shafts and they've been fine.

I picked up a Mezz Dual Force a couple weeks ago...and two nights ago, the SAME thing happened to me!!! Tip went flying on a normal break shot (no miscue or anything!).

I was lucky enough to get the tip lined back up "perfectly" when reinstalling it...it took several tries and I probably left 1/2 the skin from my fingers attached to the ferrule while trying to get it lined up due to the cyanoacrylate (super glue) getting everywhere. I took 800 grit sandpaper to the black ferrule afterwards to get rid of the leftover skin particles, followed up with some cue wax...now good as new.

It was the same scenario as you...no damage to the tip or the surface of the ferrule...just as if the adhesive they used all of a sudden "gave up"!

I recently installed a G-1o tip on a power break.....customer is very happy with it.
