Retrofitting a flat-faced shaft to a pilot-ready butt?

If the butt of a jump/break cue is meant to take a 5/16-18 piloted shaft and I match a flat-faced 5/16-18 shaft to it (due to availability), would that cause any problems or lose any efficiency breaking or jumping balls, or is it all good?

The jump/break cue is 20+ years old and inexpensive, was planning to put a similar inexpensive shaft to it with modern specs (break taper, short ferrule, phenolic, etc).

Any reasons that this is a bad idea?

Thank you

I make replacement flat faced shafts for piloted shafts all the time with no problems. The pilot is just not necessary.

It works fine. Have seen it done many times. If I was having the shaft built I would put the pilot on it. But if just picking up an extra pre-made shaft it will be fine.
