Retrospective commentary

I was watching the video of Jimmy White's 147 at The Crucible, and the great thing about this video is that Jimmy White himself is one of the commentators! He describes what he's thinking and how he feels on every shot. It's really a great experience and I wish that we could get some of the top pool players to do the same. Anybody know of any other videos like that?

Accu-Stats has a few tapes that are done in this fashion. I think they're called "Player Review" (PR) tapes. The have some very notable players that participate in this. I seem to remember there being less than 10 of these though, and I've never seen one.

However their website is down so I don't know what to make of it.

Who produced the J. White video you have? And what is "The Crucible"?

Cool, I'll have a look for those videos.

The Crucible is the major snooker tournament. 147 refers to a "maximum" break in snooker. Do a search on this forum for "direct connect" and you'll find out how to download the video. :)

capelle does something similar to that with a match between efren and reyes where each shot is broken down. But yeah it would be cooler to have the actual players do it, to see how their mind works on the table

Efren and Efren????????????????

He means Efren and Archer. The title of the book/DVD is Capelle on 9-ball: Archer vs. Reyes. It's a match from the '96 Sands Regency Open I think and goes hill-hill. The last game is unbelievable, both players kick safe about 4 or 5 times each. Efren makes some shots that boggle the mind. Archer plays some top level 9-ball himself. The match is taken from an Accu-Stats production; Incardona commentates (with another guy, don't remember the name).

Capelle disects something like 20 key shots in the match in depth, replaying them in the DVD with his commentary overlaid. The book goes through each rack shot by shot, concentrating more on the critical ones. It also gives the insightful statistical info that Capelle seems to be famous for.

Here's a link. I asked for it last Christmas IIRC; this year it's your turn.

The World Championship is the major snooker tournament. The Crucible (theatre) in Sheffield is it's traditional venue.

I remeber watching a video, I think it is called 'Century Breakmakers' or Greatest Breaks, and in that there is a commentary by Steve Davis talking about his 147 at the Lada Classic, the first televised 147.

I have one of the player reviews from Accu-stats. It's called "how to run 100 balls" with Jim Rempe. It's perfect if you like 14.1 because he explains the run shot by shot, and tells you what is going through his head. It's amazing to hear him say "I got way out of line on that shot" when it looks like he's perfect, but was playing to a different ball. He also gives you the 4 golden rules he uses to play 14.1. I started using them after studying the tape, and it moved me up a notch, and I got my highest run ever....127

Deffinately worth the investment.......Gerry

Player review tapes by accu-stats are some of their best tapes. I just went to their website and it was working. Type "player review" in the search area and you'll get a whole page of tapes.

Some good ones:

Dick Lane playing 14.1 against Archer
Rempe playing 14.1 against Ginky
Dave Bollman playing Bustamente in 9-ball
Jimmy Fusco playing N.Varner in 1-pocket (out of print, though)
Buddy Hall vs Dobrowski at 1-P

Any of the player review tapes are good.
