Hey there guys. I just wanted to relay to you a great pool experience that I was fortunate enough to get last evening. Based on some other AZ b’ers reviews and comments, I contacted pool champion John Brumback and scheduled some instructional time with him. First, I just want to tell you how much fun I had – certainly one of the most fun pool events ever for yours truly.

John brings a contagious enthusiasm to the game and to helping others learn that is a rather effective combination. I have taken instruction before, and have benefited from that, but I have to say that his teaching methodology is the tops - maximum information presented in an entertaining manor. But perhaps his delivery is so good because John is just such a down to earth, all around great guy that it is hard not to laugh and have fun while absorbing what he is saying and demonstrating.

Now, earlier I referred to John as a “pool champion”. I think that this more adequately describes John’s ability as a player and a teacher. Usually the term “bank pool champion” precedes his name, but that is perhaps a misnomer, as HE PLAYS ALL GAMES AT THE TOP LEVEL – that’s the reason he won the DCC 2009 Master of the Table award after all. At my request, we specifically focused on some onepocket, which was time well spent, as we discussed strategy, available shots, risk assessment, etc. Let me say that he is an extraordinarily creative onepocket player, and let’s face it, he is a banking demon – that makes it extra tough on his opponent, who will absolutely struggle to defend against many of the awesome bank shots that everyone knows is in his arsenal. You might as well learn and make his weapons your own.

Speaking of bank shots, I would have been remiss if I did not engage John in a banking tutorial. Let me just say that I will never approach banks the same way again. He told me that he feels like he has an edge in bank pool because of his technique. I have to say that I agree. He set up some shots for me, told me to shoot them the way I normally would. Sometimes I made them, sometimes not. When he explained his approach to these shots, I executed the bank right away, to my amazement! He knows what he’s talking about ladies and gents!!! But you already knew that, given his extraordinary back to back DCC bank titles and record of other high finishes.

Also, he demonstrated several valuable drills that will make practicing more valuable and fun while playing alone. And let’s face it, pool should be fun. If I wanted it to be like work, I would just get another job – ha ha. Of course, part of the fun of pool is getting better, which requires practice and effort – which is why I heartily recommend spending some time with John. It will absolutely shorten your learning curve, and that alone is bound to enhance your experience playing the game.

Additionally, his analysis of fundamentals and suggestions for improving stroke, etc., I found to be a great help. Of course, when you see John’s stroke, you will know why he hits ‘em so sporty. He’s about as technically flawless as any of the best out there. Why not learn from one of the best, IMO?
I guess that the bottom line is that I recommend to anyone who wants to improve their game to RUN, NOT WALK TO MR. BRUMBACK. YOU WILL GET YOUR $$$’S WORTH!!!

Anyway, thanks for reading this somewhat lengthy review. I just wanted everyone to know how much fun I had and how valuable I found the experience to be. My pool buddies had better watch out – I’ve got some new weapons to deploy against them now – ha ha!

Lastly, I just want to say THANK YOU JOHN!!!

As always, cheers and happy shooting…

Thanks alot bud.Remember..don't hold your cue to far back.John B.

thanks for the review. John is a great guy and I want him to swing past my neck of the woods for a 45 day lesson.

I'm taking a different approach to getting him to come here though. I have hired a snot nosed kid to do surveillance on him 14 hours a day. The kid has been instructed to photograph him in comprising positions (although I did have to explain to the snot nosed kid, that him kicking back spread eagled on a tractor was not what I had in mind) , so that I may use them to blackmail him in coming here and giving lessons.

Problem is... this is getting expensive. The snot nosed kid gets $10 a day and a 2 liter bottle of coke and all he's given me in the last 2 months, is John taking his shirt off in the field. I'm thinking I may have the snot nosed kid slip him a mickey and then do some Photoshop work.

We'll see where we can go with that.

I'll keep everyone updated on my progress.

:D:wink:
