Review of the Derby City Classic for Spectators

Having attended the DCC many times at the old Executive West, my friend and I have resisted trying out the new venue until this year. We both decided to go mainly out of curiosity, as no one seemed to have answers to many of our questions about the new (now four-year old) venue.

I decided to put together some photos and information in a spectator's review of this year's Derby City Classic, so that newbies and people like me will be able to make a more informed decision about the tournament and decide if they would like to attend in the future. Please read it, and let me know (or leave a comment on site) if you think the article needs additional information that would be helpful to fans considering attendance.

You hit it dead on my friend. I still had a blast!

Derby is still Great, Executive West is Gone and a Casino is a Casino.

Very good write-up. Thanks

Pretty much sums it up nicely! One major improvement that might have been worth mentioning is the much improved scheduling system for the tournaments, but this article was more about the differences in venues so I get it. Well done!

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the kind feedback.

I did not have much information on the new scheduling software, but I am sure that it helped the players schedule their rest periods between matches. That is certainly an improvement that will benefit the fans also.

I did forget to mention the "missing" overhead tv monitor in the TV Arena. I do not know if they have ever used one in Indiana at the Horsehoe, but I seem to remember one being mounted at one of the old Derby Tournaments in the Executive. Does anyone remember this also? If so, why did they stop using it? It was great for the fans when you did not have a good angle to see the shot live.

They have the one screen out by the ticket window, and the other by the main desk. Where at the E.W.,,, they only had the one in the main room, up by the ceiling. The tv channel in the rooms, are much better now too. At the old place, it was always really snowy. Plus, now it is on the internet. You can look up matches on your smart phone. Lots of improvements. Having scheduled match times, is one of the best ones.

Got It

Thank you for the information.

I am making adjustments to the article to reflect these helpful comments.
