I've been thinking of trying out a Molavia tip, and was wondering if anybody could give me some feedback on them?

The search results bring up a couple of threads, but they are mostly related to the sale of these tips, and 90% of them are just bumps by a seller.

I'm looking for actual Player feedback on these tips.

Can anybody help me out?

i've tried them....the soft was a very soft tip, softer than a moori slow, but it played nice and held chalk better than a moori. it did mushroom a bit initially like all soft tips do, but after a trim it did not mushroom further.

i tried a medium and did not like it at all, mine was rock hard. perhaps it was just the odd dud, i haven't tried another medium since then.

the tips seem like pretty good quality, typical of a higher end japanese layered tip. the soft is very good option for soft tip users as lot of layered soft tips aren't really that soft.

I've tried a lot of cue tips, but this is one that i've missed. I'm interested in what people have to say about them also.......

I installed a hard about 2 weeks ago. It does hold chalk really well but mushroomed slightly after a week of playing. I'm having a hard time power drawing with this one but it draws nicely with a slow to medium stroke. I would really like to try a medium.

James,

You might like the soft version of these tips. I've heard someone describing them as just a hair softer than the old Moori Slow's.

I haven't played with a Moori in a long time, but I think I remember you saying you liked that Slow tip.

Mike,

The Moori Slow tip was my favorite tip for a couple of years until they came out with an updated line of tips and the new version Moori tips didn't feel the same to me. I tried a few tips looking for something that played like the original Moori Slow tips and I found a tip that works well for me and it's a Sniper tip. I'm so pleased with Sniper tips that i'm not going to try anymore tips for a while.

OK I just recieved a new, rc3 (Richard Chudy) cue that came with the Molavia tips. The tips were installed on the shafts a while back, so I have no idea which tip (S, R, H) these are. They feel "Soft", but I don't know enough about them to be sure.

The tips seem to feel OK, and they do grip the cueball well. They have a very different feel than the Kamui's I am used to, so that might be what's throwing me off right now.

I will be sending the cue back and getting it re-tipped with some Kamui Black Super Soft tips, so I'll let you know what I think of the difference between them. I have not tried the new Super Soft Black, so this should be good!

Looks like I might have spoken too soon on these tips.

The tips Richard put on my cue were Molavia Softs. They were not shaped the way I wanted, but did felt good.

Then I re-shaped them to a dime radius, and tapped them with a tapper. The result was practically a new tip! Originally the tip felt good, but didn't have the grip I liked. After I shaped and tapped it, I can really see that this is a great tip! I had the tips switched over to some more familiar Kamui Black tips (Super Soft this time), so I'll be able to give them a good A/B test when I get the cue back on Friday.

Anyway it looks like there is a bit more break in to these tips. With the Kamui, I'm used to just chalking the new tip and off I go. I should have taken the time to make sure these were shaped and tapped properly, and then played with them a while longer to really get a feel for them. I know I'll be happy with either the Kamui Black or the Molavia though, but I was really impressed with the Molavia at the end.

Pre-Press??

For those of you that have mentioned the tips mushrooming, has anyone tried pre-pressing these tips before installing them?

If so, how did that work???

Ive tried all three and actually my favorite is the Molavia Hard. The soft is to soft and has to be trimmed usually once after use. The Hard gets great action on the ball. But depending on the shaft and ferrule can hit to hard for some people. So you have to experiment with the M and H depending on shaft IMO.

New Molavia Fan!!!

I like the Molavia Soft *ALMOST* than the Kamui Black Soft or Black Super Soft.

The Molavias have a different feel than the Black's IMO. Not good or bad, just different.

Grip-wise they are close, but I'd give the nod to Kamui on this one. Also the new Russian Magic chalk works far better on both tips than the gray Master's I was using.

The Molavia is a nice tip, but I think I'm going to stick with the Kamui Blacks for now.

Molavia hard, hard to beat!

I think I've tried about every major layered tip out there and for this reason, I build a semi-hollow, very low deflection shaft. Moori's tended to feel like a sponge on that type of composite shaft. In the Moori 3's, the hard performed O.K. On a solid wood shaft with a phenolic ferrule, however, almost all the Moori' 2's are a good choice. But on the hollow type front end shafts, they seem to need a more resilient contact point with the cue-ball and the Molovia hard provides that quite a bit better than most of the other tips that have been tried. Oddly enough, the wizard mediums seem to be a very good tip for those who like the old Moori medium 2's and they work very well on this type of front end loaded shaft as well as on traditional solid wood. In the end you'll just have to go through a few different types of tips on your cue to find what performs best for you. But for my money, the Molavia hard reacts well to the cue-ball at contact, with great precision and excellent "FEEL."

Tried a Molavia Medium once...I liked them very much, probably the best tip I`ve tried. But....It mushroomed like crazy and I switched back to moori M. Maybe I`ll give them another try. I have a moori and dont like it and then i switch to something different and this is different always has a big flaw and I`m back to moori again. and then again something different and again moori. It`s hilarious

I agree that different cues (and strokes) like different tips, and for me a soft tip works best for my game. I think it's because I tend to move the cueball around more with spin than speed. I also really like the grab a soft tip gives you, and I think the Molavia Soft has the best feel of any soft tip I've tried.

I have a Molavia regular on my extra shaft that a friend gave me and put on for me at BCAPL Nationals this year to give him some feedback on them. I've played an uncountable number of hours with it now and I can give it pretty high praise.

I usually play with a Tiger Medium, but have been playing with the other shaft with the Molavia on it for the last few weeks again. The tip breaks like a monster and grabs the ball increasingly well. I like the double material layered design. The thin layers of pigskin on the bottom offer a good dense backing to the tip that allows me to break great with it (about a 12.9mm shaft). The softer single layer of cow hide on the top lets me play slow speed, high spin shots with finesse and ease. I've really been quite impressed ...now I just need to get the shaft with the Molavia shaved down just a bit so its closer to my preferred playing diameter of 12.5mm.

I haven't noticed much of an issue with mushrooming on it at all - and I break pretty hard with it. I feel it breaks better than my J&J Jump/ Break Cue with the one-piece phenolic on it; hands down.

Actually you have the "Hybrid" Molavia tip, that looks like this:

I'm glad to hear somebody posted feedback on them, too, because that seems like a neat idea. I actually have one coming, so I'll be able to check it out first hand myself.

Thanks for the input, and keep them coming!!!
