Revo Wipes - What's Up With Those?

So, If the USPS gets their heads out of their mailbags maybe they'll eventually deliver me the nice used Revo I bought to try out, now 2 days late and nobody at the PO can tell me where it is. But that's another story.

I'm wanting to know what is the reason for these wipes, is there something about CF that makes them more prone than maple to get dirty or is it a somewhat unnecessary item that Predator hopes will be a small recurring revenue item? I know that was about 3 questions.

Also, I've been told the wipes are just alcohol and water so could they be substituted for moist towelettes or a napkin and alcohol?

TIA for sharing what you know.

best,
brian kc

Revo wipes

Predator's website says to use their wipes or rubbing alcohol. I purchased some alcohol wipes from the local Sam's Club. 800 of them for a few dollars, threw a few packs in my pool bag and I'm all set.

sounds good but what are they for? Does the CF attract dirt? Chalk?

I wiped down my revo with a moist towelette for the first time in a year the other day. Only a little dirt smudge showed. Probably from air pollution but not chalk. Mitch

I think you would be cleaning the oil and dirt from your hands, along with chalk residue. I clean mine with disinfectant wipes, and there is definitely chalk that can build up, just like how a wood shaft turns blue from chalk. The wipes are bluish after I wipe the shaft. Although in this case, the chalk residue is just clinging to the surface onto the oil from your hands that is on the shaft. Alcohol probably does a better job of removing the oil from your hands that gets on the shaft.

Good post. The chalk residue is actually very abrasive. Over time, this chalk dust will wear the shaft surface. Keeping it clean is really important. Often wiping with a microfibre cloth/towel will get most of the contaminants off the shaft and then using the wipes to remove any oily build up from a persons skin. People who wear gloves, just need to wipe with a microfibre cloth to keep it all clean.

I wonder if the point of including the alcohol towel was to help educate customers of the shaft not to ever use sandpaper or other abrasive products, which they might be used to for wood shafts.

Here at the Post Office we care about your packages. Stand back behind the yellow line until we call you. We have a basketball hoop on the back wall and sometimes we find lost packages in the bin under the hoop. The ones containing glass are a bummer. Orville kicked one fragile box the length of the sorting room and right through the hoop. Some boxes double as a wheel chock in the dock area and delivery can become delayed. We advise that you use a waterproof shipping label that will resist mud. Our league guys are always on the lookout for a new case or LD shaft. Thread joints don't match so we can always prop a window open if it's a 30" shaft. Hey, we warned you....buy insurance. Call our 800 number to get help in finding your package. 1-800-NOW-LOST. Push 1 for English. Don't hang up. Take our survey at the end.
