Reyes cup 2025.

Just like last year, plenty of people here have already labelled it a fixed carnival in WeChat groups I’m in.
Matchroom would do a much better job if it was fixing matches. What has happened is the last thing it wanted to see.

But people love conspiracies. Humans are often very irrational creatures.

I find it hard to believe there’s not more than a few hundred fans in Manila who could easily afford the tickets. The city has 2,000,000 people.

No reason for me to expect the open next week will draw much better. If I’m right. Matchroom will have to look elsewhere to host another big major in the future.

Their prices are too high. Phillipines is ranked 74th poorest country. Matchroom should know this and adjust their prices accordingly. There are hundreds of fans waiting outside hoping to get in or catch a glimpse of Efren, but they can't afford it. Sad reality.

More like ten million! Manila is one of the most populated cities on the planet. About one third of them live in poverty. Whole communities of small hand made huts of bamboo and tin. They are all squatters with no title or deed to their homes. You will see this all over Manila and throughout the Philippines, people scratching out their survival and never complaining about it either.

Another 50-60% of the people have very low paying jobs, earning around 300-500P a day ($6-$10). They have no extra money for anything, other than food, clothing and the rent. Perhaps 10-15% of the population can afford a better life style. That is your real market there. How many of them are interested enough to attend a billiards tournament is the question. Filipinos greatly prefer watching basketball and volleyball matches. I've been to both and seen very large crowds.

Among that large group (the 50-60%) some of them would probably like to see the billiard champions if they felt it was affordable.
