RFID Chips in Cues

I was thinking the other day how long before we see RFID (radio frequency identification) chips in cues, both production and custom.

This would virtually eliminate stolen cues. The chips could be put under the wrap or in the butt and once a maker starts putting them in then even if they could be removed, you would know the cue was hot because it didn't have it.

The number would be registered with the owner at the makers or at a central database and could be updated when sold. Not only would there be a safe list of who owns the stick but there would a log of how many (and who's) hands it has gone through.

What do you think, good idea or not needed?

I wonder if there will ever be someone who decides they want to put a "Black Box" in a cue to see what it is doing with the average player.

That is actually a great idea. I am actually doing my masters here in MIT, and my program is closely linked with the Auto-ID Lab here, its actually worth looking at..but i am not sure if u need a power source (RFID isn't my focus) and that would cause a problem.

They are passive.
