After shooting with the new Rhino Must shaft and comparing it to the original I have some some points I have noticed. First, it is heavier than the original in the front and I don't mean a little. It feels a lot more heavier. Second, the taper is pro taper but it get thicker more quickly down the shaft..which is not bad..I actually like it a lot. Third the new tips they come with are way, way better. Feels good shooting and holds chalk much better..I haven't seen if it glazes over yet like most black tips but I'll keep my eyes open. Lastly the carbon fiber feels much more premium and stiffer with better construction. Overall I feel this is a good upgrade over the original.
Is it just me, or are others noticing this trend towards CF shafts being made heavier and more fore-weighted and balanced??
Tweeking the density of the foam is one method. Thicker CF wall and alternating fiber weave, another, while still allowing for the hollow area behind the ferrule, so as to reduce deflection. I've heard most cuemakers now are packing that hollow area with everything from cotton to experimental resin mixes.
I bought shafts from 2 diff makers and was surprised at the differences, not only in weight, but finish as well. Overall appearance was completely different on each shaft. Obviously using 'slipping agents' in the mix to seal the surface and make the shaft slick.
(Specialized polymers)
One is heavy, the other is light.
By heavy, I mean 4 + ozs.
By light I mean 3.5 ozs and under.
I play better with the heavier shaft. Why??
Could be a plethora of reasons.
Control issue?? Easier to apply spin with less power??

More solid hook up??
Jury's still out.
Better minds than mine will be brought to bear.

I'll post findings if and when they figure it out.
