Rhino MUST

The original McDermott Defy had a coating on it, if I remember correctly. If memory serves, they had a great deal of issue/complaint with the coating. McDermott corrected the "wrap/coating" issue when they released the 2nd generation Defy shaft. I'm wondering if the coating would be ceramic or Teflon in nature.
AZBilliards posts linked here, and ChatGPT's hallucination-less response (below) won't say what the different coatings on the various versions of the Defy shaft are.

After shooting with the new Rhino Must shaft and comparing it to the original I have some some points I have noticed. First, it is heavier than the original in the front and I don't mean a little. It feels a lot more heavier. Second, the taper is pro taper but it get thicker more quickly down the shaft..which is not bad..I actually like it a lot. Third the new tips they come with are way, way better. Feels good shooting and holds chalk much better..I haven't seen if it glazes over yet like most black tips but I'll keep my eyes open. Lastly the carbon fiber feels much more premium and stiffer with better construction. Overall I feel this is a good upgrade over the original.

Would you possibly know the weight in ounces of the Must shaft? I am curious if it is the same weight at Rhino's earlier shafts (with just a different weight distribution) or is a bit heavier overall. thanks.

On the radial, 3.9 oz must, 3.8 oz regular, balance 10" must, 8" regular

Is it just me, or are others noticing this trend towards CF shafts being made heavier and more fore-weighted and balanced??
Tweeking the density of the foam is one method. Thicker CF wall and alternating fiber weave, another, while still allowing for the hollow area behind the ferrule, so as to reduce deflection. I've heard most cuemakers now are packing that hollow area with everything from cotton to experimental resin mixes.
I bought shafts from 2 diff makers and was surprised at the differences, not only in weight, but finish as well. Overall appearance was completely different on each shaft. Obviously using 'slipping agents' in the mix to seal the surface and make the shaft slick.
(Specialized polymers)
One is heavy, the other is light.
By heavy, I mean 4 + ozs.
By light I mean 3.5 ozs and under.
I play better with the heavier shaft. Why??
Could be a plethora of reasons.
Control issue?? Easier to apply spin with less power??🤔 More solid hook up??
Jury's still out.
Better minds than mine will be brought to bear. 😉
I'll post findings if and when they figure it out.😉👍🏻

Heavier as it relates to the Must shaft is sort of misleading. In Radial, yes it is .1 oz heavier than their previous shaft, but where the increased front end weight difference comes about is not really from shaft weight, but from the built in weight being moved forward about 6"-8" from it's previous version. So while the shaft weight of both versions is similar, the Must balances more to the front. none of this changes the deflection of the shaft as the weight is still 18-20" from the tip.
I think this is one of the reasons people like Revo also as they balance more to the front. Also you can custom order, or at least you used to be able to custom order a Revo shaft in weight and balance within certain parameters. So if you wanted one a few tenths heavier, or slightly more forward balanced you used to be able to order that, at a cost of course.

What was the turn out with rhino customer service ?

If you did finally recieve a replacement, what are your thoughts on its performance ?

Thx.
Hello.

I sincerely apologize for the late reply. I had not been here much until a couple weeks ago.

After about a week and a half of back and forth, myriad of pictures, a video showing the wobble with the must shaft and no wobble with the standard shaft, they finally agreed to send a replacement. They did send a label for me to return the defective shaft. I had a new shaft within several days. The replacement came out fine.

As of performance, I believe it performs similar to the standard Rhino shaft. Only differences are balance point and has a different taper, forgot the name, as other folks have suggested. I believe it would make a difference for players that are a bit sensitive to cue balance, but I do not think it has less deflection than a standard Rhino shaft; at least that is how it feels to me as we are all individual as how equipment feels. I am not sensitive to balance so I can play the same with both. The only thing I do not like is the taper. I prefer a pro taper as I tend to place the cue a bit more forward than usual on the bridge hand, I see a lot of Filipinos do the same, so the more conical taper of the Must does not work as well for me. But regardless, it is a decent budget shaft, same with their cues. I would not go out of my way to buy a Rhino cue with a standard shaft and then buy a Must to "upgrade".
