Does anyone know what type of micarta he is using currently on his ferrules? I did a little research and everone says when first cut it will be white and then turn yellow in a couple of days. If this is true, his ferrules stay a milky white.
Thanks

So who is(are) this 'everyone'?

As Dick said, RH uses the old Westinghouse Micarta.

It does indeed turn yellow, but anyone who thinks this happens
in a couple days is lost-in-space, presumably in some kind
of Star Trek time warp

Couple of YEARS would be more accurate.

Dale<who has some that are still white>

Edit:
I checked mine. The orig stuff is well past yellow, sort of
a light brown/dark tan color.

some blanks I turned down well over two years ago are still
off-white. They have been in a box with a cover.

Richard no longer uses the old yellow micarta (asbestos kind).

From what I have seen he has 3 different types at least. White micarta, orangish micarta and a yellowish linen based micarta. All three have the same hit.

As Dale said, the research you have done and the "everybody" crowd is pretty lost if they think it turns yellow that quickly.

Troy,

Check your pm's.

I talked to Richard about 3 months ago about this very subject. He told me that he had bought a bunch of the material years ago and that about 8 or 10 years ago he had found a guy that used to make knives and he bought his supply of the Micarta. He told me he had enough for about 650 more ferrules and then he didnt know what he would use after that.

Yes the old stuff took a while to change, nothing overnight for sure. You would'nt believe how many people I have seen with It and thought It was ivory, because of that color change I suppose. I think some of them still did'nt believe me when I told them what It really was. It is/was a good feeling material for ferrules though. I really like It. Wish I had a good supply of it Myself.:)
