We seem to always want to talk about who is the best one pocket player of all time and there are many who could claim that title. Choosing Ronnie or Effie or Scott or Cliff in their prime wouldn't be a mistake. I saw Ronnie play a lot of one pocket in the 60's and early 70's and he was a force to reckon with. He literally changed the game by himself due to his unique style of play. Efren also changed the game in his own way as well. There just weren't too many players who could play Ronnie even up and he had to give out very large spots to get played back in the 60's. The even up talent just wasn't there. No one brings up Harold Worst too much but he might have been the best ball striker I ever saw and he learned new games very fast. If Harold had lived a little longer we would have seen his name more often on these posts. But that was not to be as his life was cut short by leukemia. So I think Efren is the best one pocket player of all time due to his longevity at playing at a very high level. At 60 years old there has never been a player who could compete with him and I pick him to win the current one pocket tournament undefeated. How about THAT.

Maybe when I sat there and heard Cliff tell RR "no" it was just my imagination. I think Cliff knew his shoulder was becoming a problem at about this time. I do remember RR telling Cliff that RR had lost the last time they played.

I'm not saying you didn't hear that - maybe on that particular day Cliff wasn't feeling good, or he couldn't find enough guys to let him "hold a hundred"...

I'm just sayin', for the gambling archives, that I know/saw that between 12-17 yrs. ago they played many times 8-7.

12-13 years ago Richie wanted 8-7 from Cliff and Cliff said no. Now he's going to take 8-7 from a guy who plays better now than Cliff did then (wrist fractures in bridge hand aside) and Richie is 12-13 years older?

ONB

With all due respect...not true - that was their usual game back then....back at that time I watched Cliff give Richie 8-7 at the U.S. Open One Pocket in Kalamazoo, and also at Grady's Legends of O.P. in South Carolina in 2002.

Actually, that is exactly what you said Mr. Ghost.

P.S. I didn't say 12-17 years ago, I know what their game was then, I said 12-13 years ago.

P.Ps. There were a handful of high-dollar stakehorses in the room who would've put up Cliff and RR, if needed.
