Ring Game

Hello... quick question?

I am headed for the pool hall in a few minutes... There will be 3 of us there... just wondering how exactly you play a 9 ball ring game? Small stakes? Any quick responses will be appreciated...

Thanks

Rules can vary slightly from game to game, but here's how we play our weekly (actually ends up being 2 or 3 times a week) ring game.

Winner breaks

small money on the 5, big money on the nine (small and big are relative, $1 and $2, $2 and $3, $3 and $5, $5 and $10, etc)

If the 9 goes in before the 5 is cleared off of the table, it spots back up.

If the breaker scratches, then all balls made on the break spot back up. If no balls are made and the lowest numbered ball is behind the headstring, it spots on the footspot.

No BIH on fouls. Next shooter after a foul has the option of shooting the shot or making the fouling player shoot again.

On a scratch, or any cue ball foul, all balls made on the foul spot on the footspot.

Other than normal 9-Ball rules, that about covers it, I think.

Have fun,

Bob

We have played that any money ball made early via combo/carom gets re-spotted. This allows the shooter a chance to build points/$$$. The player still gets credit for the money ball and continues shooting.

The rules Cane stated are basically the same around here also. Can be a fun game, and somewhat of an equalizer if there are 2 good shooters and 1 strong shooter. Edge doesnt always go to the best player.

No teaming up. Watch out for two players that are pairing up against you to take your money. They will set each other up for a easy runout and split the money that you lost later on. If the player before you cannot run out he will miss intentionally to leave you a really bad shot to help set his partner up.
