I am looking to Thorne wrap design of may wedding ring turned into ring work. I frist want to have Joint protectors made with this style of ring. Then I want a custom cue made with this ring work. I have attached a quick drawing and a image of my ring.
thanks

I think a design similar was used on the Searing Orange Crush cue? Not sure, anyone got a picture?

anyone

is not someting anyone would be able to do?
maybe out of wood, ivory (or ivory like), pewter, open to any ideas

There is a reason that the majority of cues are symmetrical in design. Your design is free form . Inlaying a free form shape around a spherical object is a lot more complicated. It involves a rotary axes to cut the pockets as well as the inlay. It would be much easier if you based your design around a repeated pattern .
This is an example of what I am talking about, it's the Thomas Wayne cue.

If you want that as your wedding ring with a structure to it - it's easier than a inlayed version. Good CAD/CAM knowledge and a machine to work with should be what's needed and I'm sure some one could help.

I have seen rope and vine patterns etc done by hand, but its all file work in a repeatable pattern and labor intensive. Im sure there are a few folks who could come close to a similiar pattern even by hand tho...

for flat, I think it depends on how much you're looking to spend:
Alot: any maker with 4 axis CNC could do it.
Some: find someone who is excited about the project and has cnc or is particular
A little: I'd try a filipino maker who can carve it by hand and fill it with color epoxy or the like.

Are you looking for a flat or 3d design?

Flat or 3D
Think I might able to have the rings made out of alumina but the problem would be how do you know the sizes? Or would all the wood part of the cue be made then make the ring and then final fit to the wood? I have done a lot of stuff with metals but not realy done anything wood, other than 2x4 and such.
Thanks for imput

If you just want engraving filled with epoxy, that would be easier to build. Still need a fourth axis though.

The Orange Crush was completely different.

Beau,

That is a seamless Ivory ring or rings that are super thin. This shows a micro seamless ring can be done in Ivory. Using this logic would it not be easier to do in gold? I mean the ends would be flat which is easier and the engraving on the inside not spiked half diamonds coming out on upper and lower ends?

With the Orange Crush, the ivory was sandwiched between the coral rings. I have no doubt this design can be made, but I think the process will be a bit different.

Jeremy,

Another idea would be to have an ivory ring scrimshawed/engraved.

Best of luck with your project,

~Beau

Here is a example of a ring - not designed by me, but I can machine it.
Have not had the time to make my own stuff, but at some point in time it would happen.
