Just wondering, where do you get the large metal/silver/brass rings. Like the ones in the old Balabushkas. I see that Atlas and Prather have rings up to .030 but the rings I see and need are bigger. Thanks for any info on the matter.

Take 2 of the 0.030" nickel/silver rings and install together. When you turn them on the lathe they will look like one thick ring when done without a visible seam. Be very careful not to break them loose when turning.

It has, I would suggest Using the key words "Thick Rings" in the search that should bring some of them up.
I've cut rings out of sheet Using My pantograph, and a couple of rings glued to a slab as My template. I know It would handle the softer metals, but I have not tried It on anything as hard as nickel/silver.
I made a really thick butt ring out of some high grade alloy flat stock by drilling a blank out using a hole saw mounted in My mill. I then used the center hole to mount It to something Like a 5/16 mandrel, put in the lathe and turned the OD to clean It up, then due to It being so thick I was able to remove the mandrel, and mount the OD of the ring flush in The jaws to bore the Id out. I wish I could remember what type of alloy It was. After sanding and polishing that ring looks like sterling silver. I would be hard pressed to tell the difference If I didn't already know.
