Hi Gang. One of the benefits of living in Connecticut, aside form a high cost of living, crippling taxation, and a government that looks upon the 2nd Amendment the same way Nancy Pelosi does, is that Paul Drexler & PFD Studios are there and chances are, within an hours drive.
I got a new cue on Saturday (OB-136), The cue is beautiful, but, for me, the wrap is intolerable (leather, lizard pattern embossed, yuck!). I shot Paul an email Saturday afternoon and by early afternoon on Sunday my 8yo son and I were standing in PFD Studios.
My 8yo son likes to shoot pool with me and respects the game a lot. Even though I told him we weren't going to be playing Pool at Mr. Drexler's studio, he wanted to come anyway. Paul was his usual convivial host and made the experience fun for me and my son.
I thought I was going to simply drop my cue off, pick out some Irish Linen, and be back in a week or so to pick up my cue. As fate would have it, Paul was able to afford us "while you wait" service. For me and my son it was less the convenience factor (although that was greatly appreciated) and more being able to watch Paul work. Quite the bonus. It was a lot of fun. Paul happily answered our questions and seemed to enjoy being the showman in addition to being the craftsman.
I have to say Paul's prices are down right ridiculously low (but greatly appreciated) especially since he is so highly regarded, literally on an international basis.
My son & I had a blast today and I have a hunch it'll be one of those father/son things long remembered. With Paul simply being Paul, it made it even more special
Thanx Paul! -Z-
