Rock Paper Scissors...what the f?

The TV executives are doing their best to encourage you work on your game by having nothing of interest in their schedules to distract you. Don't waste your time watching TV. Play pool!

That stuff cost practically nothing to produce. There should be a good market for low end pool on TV, tournaments produced in pool rooms that have much lower production costs. Amateur bar table tournaments for example. People are too caught up in thinking there has to be a pro tour, there doesn't. Just getting pool on TV period would grow the industry, put people in pool rooms, have people joining leagues, buying cues and so on, regardless of whether anyone could make a living playing pool, it doesn't matter.
A lot more people would rather play pool then watch, just put on a few tournaments and you will learn that. One of the comments you get at a pool room tournament is, " Will this be over soon so we can get a table", and this is with world class players in the place. Amateur pool produced for TV that has reasonable production costs will grow the sport and benefit all even if the production was an almost non profit venture underwritten by the industry itself.
Pro tournaments cost way too much to do and can't draw flies that is just a hard reality. Any promoters out there disagree? Every tournament you put of is a struggle to break even. In other words, I don't think a pro tour or lack there of is any indication of the health of the pool economy or industry in general. Just look at what the COM did for the sport, it doesn't take pro's. It would be nice if a pro could make a living at pool but it is for the most part an amateur sport played by millions, if you view it objectively, the pro's just don't really matter.

think of pool as filler, and that it is part of a grab-bag full of filler game shows. there's really no use in complaining about it. it is what it is.

Of course I'm not sure what to think of the Rock Paper Scissors audience either
Darts on the other hand is not so bad, they play for pretty good money (say, how much for winning the R-P-S competition ? ), Canadian John Part is ranked WAY up there, and the current world champion Phil Taylor has a string of 13 world titles and is still going strong ranked #1 (talk about dominating !).

The problem with pool is that it is harder than most people realize and there is not enough money in it for the skill involved.
For some reason more people play on a bowling league. I think the reason is because a person is basically playing against themselves. The other person does not affect your how the pins are when it is your turn. Also there is more money coming back at the end of the season.
Golf is the same way. Players will play against each other but a player's score does not have anything to do with how the other player shot. Your score will either be higher or lower than your last and is not affected by the other player.
People seem to think that there is a lot of money to be made at poker. So everyone is jumping into it and it is being sponsored by the casinos with lots of money. You can get into a tournament and may win a few hundred in a night.
You play on a pool league. Pay $10. Sit around for about 3 hours, play 3 to 4 games, depending on who you play you may get more than 6 turns at the table and at the end of the season you are lucky to get any money back. If you qualify for further playoffs and advance to Vegas the money you win does not offset the costs involved.

Last year they had the Rock Paper Scissors World Championship on and my friend called me. I thought is was a skit or something than I realized it was for real. $ 30,000 1st place!! The best was at the end of the night they intervied the champ and he said "yeah my Rock was really working for me tonight" LMAO My friend and I were dying

JLW if your cable provider is still nice enough to carry ESPN classic, you can catch pool almost every morning at 9 am (central time). If not, then I guess you'll have to suck it up and watch the countless reruns of the 2005 and 2006 World Series of Poker, because apparently poker is the most popular "sport" ever. Makes me mad just thinking about it to be honest.
