Here is my first "custom" cue. It was made by a local cuemaker in the Seattle area by the name of Roger Pettit. It is not signed, but I have confirmed that it is Roger's work. This cue is 10-12 years old and has been through 3 or 4 players. I was playing league (NWPL) about a month ago, and the original owner pointed it out to me that it used to be his cue. This was right after I beat him in the league match. It also used to belong to the late "Jumpin" Gene. I did not know him personally, but he is fairly well known around here. The hit is very stiff and solid. It plays great....

Wow-A Crocodile Tear

AJ,

I do believe that I was the second owner of your cue. I was told by the guy I bought it from that he was the original owner and that he had only had the cue for a couple of months but money issues forced him.... blah blah blah...we all know the story:rolleyes: .

I had it for about a year and a half. I sold it to a guy from Federal Way when my wife and I decided to move to a sunnier climate.

If that is the same cue it originally had a flat black wrap and yes, it had a very, very stiff hit.

I played with a few of Rogers cues and they hit very stiff and had a very distinctive sound (usually followed by the sound of a ball dropping into a pocket!)

Regards

Keith

The guy I bought it from told me the whole lineage of owners of this cue, but I wouldn't doubt if that info wasn't totally accurate. Do you remember the name of the person you bought it from?

How long were the shafts? This came with two matching original shafts, but one had been cut down to 29" (I was told). The other one is 31" and has a whippy feel to it.

BTW I just put a superpro tip on the shorter shaft, and that distinctive sound really comes out. My friend noticed it from across the pool room last night. Said it was driving her crazy. I am not sure about the tip, most likely I will go to a sniper, or kumai. I think the softer tip is best with that shaft.

It is certainly one of Rogers cues, it has his classic ring work. Roger made a number of these conversions over the years, this is a common design. Roger uses Super Glue for his finish, and his cues certainly have a stiff hit.

Roger also has a great deal of good old seasoned woods and other materials. I also think Roger is one of the better cue makers in Washington state, although he is not to well known outside of it.

Oh and by the way, I have never heard of Jumpin Gene!! Whats his real name.

Nice cue, and have a great night!!!

Roger does great work, he builds cues to Kersenbrock taper and specs. They play great. I owned a few of his cues, they all played perfect. I just picked this one up

(Jumpin) Gene Dawson was just a local pool player, a good friend that loved ring games and action. He broke the rack, and all the table lights one time playing me because he jumped too high maybe. That is a memory I will have forever.
