Roll Offs

center pocket

It's just a hobby, but a fun one.

Now that I am playing a lot more 14.1, I am shooting many shots at pocket speed because I don't need to travel the cue ball for these shots. I am noticing that my runs are ending because the ball will roll off hitting the outer most part of the facing, bobble and not drop. Its driving me nuts because I will shoot the ball straight to the hole then it rolls off a hair and doesn’t drop. I feel I am going to have to stop shooting that soft or I am not going to run a lot of balls. It pisses me off though. I mean what if I have a 5 degree cut and I want to slide the cue ball over an inch, that’s it! Well then I need to shoot at pocket speed. It’s very aggravating. I need to get a starett level and relevel my table again.

What are your thoughts?

CueTable Help

I notice it on this shot alot.

Yup! I def agree... between that and the death rattle, many of runs have come to a stop. When I get my tax money back, I will be getting my table refelted and releveled.

From what I could guess, maybe the rolls weren't notices in other games since in most other games more stroke shots are taken.

Where as 14.1 alot of shots are taken gently to ensure more accurate position.

I would recomend as well to make sure the cloth is pulled tight and even.

I personally find that there is a very fine line in 14.1 between a soft stroke and dogging a stroke. Maybe that's just me, but, when I'm playing well I know I'm hitting the ball a tad harder (and I do mean a tad) and letting the english position the CB.

On a slight angle shot where it feels like you will over run your position if you don't slow roll it, I find hitting it fuller and twisting it in a bit is sometimes better than slow rolling. At least thats how I address some of those shots.

I think 3 and stop has the best solution for me. The table is a diamond pro am and the felt was stock simonis 860. The table plays great. It was installed about a month ago so I think it is just settling, thats all.

Shot the shot fuller, tad more speed, spin it in.
