Ronnie Alcano World Pool Champ 2006!!!

What a match!

Ralf can't get the breaks while Ronnie was in another dimension!

The shot of the tournament was rack 15! Ronnie made a "fearless" incredible shot on the 2-ball to the right side pocket.

A must have video...

It was defintely the Ronnie Show. I can't understand why Souquet wouldn't try and duplicate Ronnie's break. Besides the fact that Ronnie was playing lights out, he was in total control with his break. He could choose to go for the runout or play safe at his leisure. Ronnie never once faced a difficult choice after his own breaks.

Ralf on the other hand - starting with game number one faced either difficult shots or hooks on his breaks. This, ultimately was the largest factor in this victory. Ronnie was never put under any real pressure by Souquet on Souquet's breaks and so he was able to outplay Souquet in the racks where they both shot and Souquet was just outclassed on Ronnie's breaks.

I feel really bad for Ralf. He wanted it really badly. He was off form and didn't get a lot of rolls going his way. But, he also had chances in the games and gave up too much to Ronnie who pounced on everything. A truly fairy tale ending with the last guy to get in the tournament through the qualifiers, losing his first two matches in the group stages, and beating world champion after champion on his way to the finals, a Phillipine World Champion in the Phillipines!!!! How strong is that.

I take back what I said about not allowing qualifiers to play. This was a great story with a great ending. It will inspire a nation. As much as I love Ralf and want to see him win this victory will probably do more for Ronnie and the Phillipine people than it ever could have for Ralf and Germans.

Yes the impact will be tremendous in the coming months... Expect the Billiards Business (i.e. small and big tournaments with tons of sponsors, billiard halls) to boom again just like in 1999 and 2000 (When Reyes won the title).

Ronato Alcano is the 2006 Philippines World Pool Champion following a runaway 17-11 victory over Germany’s Ralf Souquet at the PICC in Manila on Sunday night.

The 34 year from Calamba, Laguna, Philippines went into the final as an underdog against the 1996 champion but never looked in trouble as he lead throughout the alternate break race-to-17 final.

He now becomes the third Filipino following Efren Reyes in 1999 and Alex Pagulayan in 2004 to hold pool’s most coveted title.

congratulations, ronnie! and thank you for eight wonderful days of beautiful pool. we'll all be looking forward to watching you play in other top-flight competitions.....

The question is?

Will Ronnie take a trip to the dentist and get his teeth fixed?

BTW, Has Efren done that yet?

3 wives?

heard from the grapevine... how true.. Ronnie Alcano has 3 wives... but did not bring any to meet the President of the Philippines when he was invited to receive an award in the palace... he really needs all the money he won... no wonder he can't even fix his own teeth.. :-)
