Ronnie Alcano

Bandido,

I understand everything you are saying. But I did not only hear both sides, I saw them both. I heard the stories and did not believe them until I saw what happened. George was almost in tears because he did not want to kick the guy out, but he almost had to if Ronnie did not leave anyway. I know what you mean by unpolished!! But if you saw what this guy does to people that only wants to help him, it is more than unpolished. He would not do it in the Phil. because he knows better than that. Ronnie knows he can get HURT over there if he did what he did here! If Efren is his idol, why can't he act like him.
Reyes is no saint either, he came to this country as Ceaser Morales for one reason (to ROB people)

Don't compare

Efren used the name "Ceaser Morales" so he would be able to find action...not rob people... I am sure the people playing him were jam up players as well if they were playing him for high stakes.

Many road players have done this but lets face facts, those that saw "Ceaser Morales" play knew he could play. But, they still wanted a piece of him.

Ronnie has been accused of doing his stakehorse wrong.... not robbing his opponents!!!

Did he not give huge spots?

Did'nt they see how he plays before they played for money against him?

There's only one reason to lie about your name when you're gambling (YOU'RE CROOKED). When you lie about anything before any financial transaction with anyone for any reason you are a crook, even if you are the great Efren Reyes. Being the most talanted poolplayer in the world doesn't change that.

You got a point there.

Though, it might not be Efren's idea to use a different name. Did'nt his manager/backer took his earnings?

And when someone ask for his autograph, what did he write? Efren Reyes.

Yes, Efren came to this country and robbed people and then his backers robbed him. "What goes around comes around". Don't get me wrong, I love Reyes like every other pool fan in the world does (how can't you) he's probably the most talanted human being I've ever seen, but he's still a crook!!

I did not mean to bicker with you Edwin. I can see that you are a decent person. But Gangland Philippines is rougher than Gangland USA. I was born there in the MARCOS Era!!!!!
Didn't consider it bickering at all. We just gave both sides of the story based on our personal experience. Kind of gave both parties a fair shake then let the readers decide.

I'm surprised to hear that somebody here also went through that, those were during my HS to college days and was well involved in that. I can pretty much say that its even, Gangland Phil and Gangland USA, as I lived in SoCal from 1984-1997 continuous and to 2001 in months at a time.

To the guy that said Efren is a crook, check that out first thoroughly. Crook/ nope. Exploited, yes!

What about the american player that uses an alias when he goes around the country hustling. Let me give you an example......Wade Crane/Billy Johnson. one in the same person. He did the same thing. Does that make him a bad person?????????????????????????........mike

I think what he did considering the context it was done in does not deserve such harsh judgment. This is pool!

Efren's not a crook.
Efren came in to this country as Cesar Morales because he could not get a US visa. He was dirt poor and had no properties.
You obviously do not know how Efren is in real life.
If you did you wouldn't cast a huge stone at Efren.
Some players out there are reputed dumpers. They'd sell out their own moms.
But, funny thing is they're broke now.

Anyone ever hear of a very young Strickland dressing up in drag so that he could "rob" some local ladies events?
THATS STEALING.

Superstroke

I could just see Efren scratching his head on this one.

Funny how quickly this thread became the saga that was Efren Reyes.

In that Houston tournament, did it really matter whether Efren Reyes registered as Cesar Morales or Efren Reyes? Was there a rule that disqualified Reyes outright from that tournament?

The ones that chose to gamble against "Cesar Morales" even after seeing how he played were warned enough. On top of that, even if they knew it was actually Efren Reyes they were facing, those so-called people who got robbed wouldn't have acted differently. Given enough resources and a distorted sense of machismo, everybody would have wanted a piece of the much-heralded Efren Reyes whom they were face-to-face for the first time.

I never had a problem backing Ronnie in money matches. I guess it's how the whole deal is handled. I did have a small complaint during the 2003 WPC, I wanted him to stay close to the team that he came with but ended up running around with Efren. It's understandable that Efren is his idol and he's trying to pick-up a lot of moves from him and being his chess playing partner but we weren't there for fun and games but rather for serious competition. Needless to say, he performed poorly.

I will try to get his side of the story on his US stint. But remember, I'm just going to be a messenger so don't flame me about nor hold me responsible for the info that I get from him.
Edwin Reyes

Hello Edwin,
I just wanna make sure that you are the same person that I knew and played with when I was still in college in La Salle in Manila. Please reply to this query to satisfy my curiosity.

Hi Melman,
Right college, right location but played what? Was it a sport that we held the NCAA title for 4 straight years?

I thought that when Efren played in Houston, no one had heard of Efren prior to that. It was my understanding that players here had no reason at that time to fear any Filipino player because no one here knew enough about Efren and Jose. Although I understand that Jose had been here for a while already and had been doing pretty good playing in money games.

When gambling at pool, in my opinion, there's only one rule: caveat emptor --"Let the Buyer Beware"
