I'll make sure that I mention you to him James. I find Ronnie an all around nice and charitable guy. And even though he's rough around the edges in the manners department, he's fair but never takes S*%t from anybody. What goes around comes around kind of guy.

Edwin Reyes< have known Ronnie for 8 years

I don't know anything about him being shady, but he could play some 9-ball! I watched him play cheap sets with Dee Atkins at the DCC, and he made it like NERF pool. 3 balls on every break, straight in on everything, and with three balls left, Dee Atkins would just rake the balls.

What happened to Ronnie Alcano? The guy comes here from the Phillipines and wins damn near every toury he enters including 5th place at the U.S. Open and then is never heard from again.

I know Ronnie and I know George athough i havent spoken to George in over 6 months.

I asked George about Ronnie last time i saw him and there was no mention of any "shenanigans". I am pretty sure he told me Ronnie went to Canada and then when he tried to re-enter the US with only an expired Visa, he was put on a plane to the Phillipines. At any rate certainly no mention of the problems brought up here.

As far as drugs, that is even harder to buy. He was living in a small hick town in CT, no car, relying on George to go everywhere and ill bet everything i have George wouldn't take him near a drug. Ronnie was sending home money to his wife in the Islands regularly and he never appeared under the influence the 20 or so times i saw and spoke to him. JMHO

Now, why did Santos head west? anybody have any ideas why...............................mike

Some truth about this story comes out and every one stops talking. Thats how it always goes. Maybe if we took some time to get some info we would'nt drag a guys name throuh the mud. I still would like to here what Ronnie says?

This is pretty much what I said in an earlier post. This board has the potential to go out all over the world. How many people out there now think that this guy is a crooked druggie?

Stop talking? What's to say. The info i got was right from the horses mouth. Not saying anything else cause it's not worth it to beat the topic into the ground, and i'm waiting for the "other" side of the story.

People are gonna believe what they want.

Personally, i've met Ronnie, and watched him play. Aside from a little ego and cockyness that seems fitting considering his talent, he's never done anything to me personally (cept for a controversial chess move)

I've watched him lose on occasion, and the times I saw him lose, he was at times polite, and other times...extremely bitter and confrontational.
This pretty much covers most pool players...going back and forth between extremes.

The info from George, is pretty much verbatim.
The drug allegations...are just that...allegations. They didn't come from George, they came from someone who was hanging with Ronnie at the Trump 10ball.

If it's true or not, we don't know.
THAT is why we wait for more credible sources in the phillipines to chime in.

Plus...i think that lots of people are in denial, or very naive.
I've been around long enough to know that substance assistance in pool is all over the place. PERIOD.

I could go off right now and list some current and former regional "tour leaders" who are notorious substance abusers. To think that it's not prevalent in pool is ridiculous.

I even know world champions who have a history.
But fans who idolize there favorite players and put them up there with the gods, will never believe that their heros could possibly be guilty.

I even know local players who are fiends, but if you ask them...they are saints.
Who in their right mind would ever ADMIT something like this.
I'd like to see a tournament that has some drug testing before and during the tournament. See who the real pool players are.

As for Ronnie. Just allegations.

I've been thinking about the drug use in sports lots lately and even entertained the idea of starting a thread on it...

I too have met many top-level players who, more often that not, are under the influence of mind altering substances (and?) or alcohol. In fact, a BAD MFer came to my pool hall once and worked the joint over for a summer. Guy drank so many beers and smoked so much green- he looked like he was on the moon (he probably was).

Not that I think a large % of pros walk around pcp'd up, but you've got pot, coke, pills, all things that are far less noticible.

So, maybe I am just taken aback by the fact that there are these wasted guys out there who can rob me! I say test 'em all! Who pays for the tests? Can we just call is a green fee?

Here is the thing guys. There is no doubt in the world that Ronnie Alcano is an excellent pool player. Believe me, I got to hang out with him for a couple of months. I was even with them in the trump 10ball challenge. He is a nice person and a great pool player. The thing about this guy is he has no ethics. His backer is just really a nice guy that he would not talk bad about Ronnie unless he really knows you. He did do George very wrong and all George wanted to do is to help him. When he came to this country with nothing, George gave him money and sent money back to his family. For this, all he got from Ronnie was aggravation. Ronnie did not stiff him for money directly, but he did it indirectly. For example, they would win money. He would send all of his money back to the Phil. and not have money again. Of course, George would feel bad and give him some money. In essence, George only broke even with him, but has to pay rent! The only thing I'm trying to say is he's a person who was never taught the right way!

He usually goes West to see friends and play pool out there. I guess really just as a change of scenery.

EXACTLY!
Well said.

Good point about George not knowing you well enough. There are many people whom you come in contact with in the pool world. Just because you see them a lot.....doesn't mean they are your friend.

I imagine that the people who never heard the story from George and contested parts of this threat, BELIEVE they are deserving of this info, and therefore cannot believe it if he never actually told THEM. If he didn't tell them...it must somehow be a lie because THEY didn't hear it.

Well if he did tell me something negative about someone i wouldnt go blabbing it on the internet, unless maybe it was about you.

I see that NOSTROKE is the first one to get bent out of shape over a topic that has been discussed EVERYWHERE. Not just here on this forum. Congratulations. You are the winner. You can't handle the truth, and obviously it upsets you that you don't want Ronnie to be the topic of bad stuff, and he is. BOO HOO SNIFFLE!

GET OVER IT!

What is being said here is the TRUTH. Sorry, but that's how it goes. Truth hurts. If you can't handle it...well that's not my problem. If what's said here can save someone some aggravation, then talking about it was a GOOD THING.

This wouldn't even be a topic if SOMEONE HADN'T ACTED A CERTAIN WAY!
So any discussion of the fact...is DESERVED!
It's not like were making this stuff up to slander him.

This is a discussion forum, and that's what gets done. Things get discussed. For better of for worse.
Deal with it.

Or maybe George told you the story in hopes that you don't discuss it in such a far reaching media. How it came about being a topic between you and George I don't know but some stories do emerge to justify ones actions or to enhance ones stories.

A korean friend and a world boxing champ high stakes Ronnie and never had a problem with him. Unethical he's not, a bit unpolished in the manners department yes. It's understandable though. About the warnings from other Filipino players? They're just "professional jealousy" to me, a normal thing experienced from players by a backer.

Do you think that he'll get staked US$10k per set of rotation playing even against the likes of Efren if he cannot be trusted?

George may have his side of the story and so does Ronnie. The stories can be true or slightly bent to favor oneself but one thing is true to me, this has only hurt both of them so I now refuse to participate further.

Bandido,

I understand everything you are saying. But I did not only hear both sides, I saw them both. I heard the stories and did not believe them until I saw what happened. George was almost in tears because he did not want to kick the guy out, but he almost had to if Ronnie did not leave anyway. I know what you mean by unpolished!! But if you saw what this guy does to people that only wants to help him, it is more than unpolished. He would not do it in the Phil. because he knows better than that. Ronnie knows he can get HURT over there if he did what he did here! If Efren is his idol, why can't he act like him.

I hear you but with what is being displayed now, all of George's frustrations isn't for nothing as Ronnie may have ended up a better person. I'm sure he's not being good nowadays for fear of what can be done to him. Gangland Philippines, Gangland USA,...What's the difference?

With regards to acting like Efren, he's starting to. He just needs us to give him a little break. We all needed that sometime or another.

You know what, if that's the case, it can only bring good things for Ronnie. I hope he does change and hope to watch him play again. Especially that someone informed me that he's shooting very, very STRONG as of late.
I did not mean to bicker with you Edwin. I can see that you are a decent person. But Gangland Philippines is rougher than Gangland USA. I was born there in the MARCOS Era!!!!!
