Rookie as hell tool questions about Hightower delux

I bought the book and have been plowing through it. I also have done some joint practice no glue on cheap poplar dowels rather than waste my maple. I appreciate everyone who has replied or messaged me. Thank you all, especially you Mr. Hightower. You made a great machine I am enjoying learning about

Having recently purchased a Hightower lathe I have perused these forums for all the information I can and what I've learned when people ask questions is some people will give all the information freely and some will tell them too bad, you're on your own.
Jeez, I don't think I ever asked a question and didn't get a response, or maybe several. Of course in the old days the pool players didn't like to give any tips cause they might play the guy later on and get beaten because of what they taught their opponent. Doesn't apply here because it takes a long time to get good at cuemaking. Deluxe lathes are great and anybody wants to sell a used one ask me please. I can't afford a new one right now and they are good. Lots of pluses, they are smaller and less money, and maybe even cheaper to buy tooling etc. I'm not sure but probably a little more safe to operate ??

Just like in real life. :)

Correct. But every other forum I have been on anyone and everyone was willing to give any information that was needed.

As I typed that I realized most of the sites I have been on were automotive themed and it was fixing cars versus giving up possibly propriety methods, which, I suppose in that case may be warranted.

My son came on here back then and tried posting some questions. He got a lot of smart ellick answers telling him to just ask his dad and such and he lost interest in a hurry. He really could have been a great asset here on the CNC side of things. If everyone just followed the basic rules on here this would be a great civil platform for helping one another.
when I started out I had a similar experience........... those assholes have seemed to disappear .............. there are a lot of good people here that will offer good advice............... keep asking questions........... it is not an easy road to be a cue builder........ there are a million things to learn.............. it took me 3 years before I called myself a cue builder.................... now after 10 years........... there are still things I haven't done............. but I'm working on it.............
