Room closed, but still need help.

So I am writing under sad circumstances, but still need help in continuing on. The local pool hall in my city has closed down due to city construction and the owner will not be relocating, but I would still like to continue playing. Unfortunately the nearest pool halls are 45 miles going north, and 60 miles going south. I am easily able to make 2 of the tournaments in these halls, but my main concern is play time, drill practice and just trying to stay in stroke for other bigger tournaments. While I could drive to these halls on off tournament nights, I feel the overall drive would become rather tedious and tiring. So basically what I am looking for is anybody who has experience with such matters and could offer some insight. Also maybe some suggestions on how to best manage my time at the pool halls, and even things I can do away to help.

Well, I used to play league and practice 4 to 6 nights a week until 11 pm.
I would get up at 3 or 4 am and drive truck for 12 hrs and that night, do it all over again.
I guess it boils down to how bad a person wants something. You mentioned that you feel that a 45 min drive both ways would be tiring. Once or twice a week isn't that bad if you manage your time and you always have the weekends. Make it a fun ritual, get up early Saturday, hit the road, stop for breakfast on the way and make the hall by mid morning. Play until you can't see straight and call it a good weekend.

has a vacuum been created?

Was the pool room self supporting? What happens to all the equipment?
What city are we talking about that only had one poolroom? Is there
enough pool players to support a pool room? Maybe you and a pool playing friend can get together to buy one of the pool tables and put it in one of your homes. I see a lot of options here. Give us all the details.

dfc,

Two of my team mates in a Wednesday night BCAPL league drive over 90 miles one way to play with us. It's their only way to play pool as well. Have you canvased any other local players? Perhaps one of them already has or knows of a table to play on. Buying a pool table, even a bar box, will keep you in stroke. Good luck in your predicament.

Not much to say, I drive 35 minutes... 45 miles is brutal though. I guess go to the closer one when you can bear it.

Helps to have a consistent pool buddy that you carpool with who is always down to shoot and has a compatible work schedule. Then the time in the car isn't so bad. Stay as long as you can to make it worth the haul. There are times when I want some solo practice but I just can't get it up for the drive, and your drive is even longer. I don't know that you'll be able to keep up a solo practice. If you prefer to practice alone sometimes and want advice on how to make it bearable... audio book. And good tunes.

45 miles is nothing to do something you're committed to. And since you're obviously in the middle of nowhere, traffic will not be an issue at all.

Pool is easy to manage. You're never wet, cold, unable to see, or have the fear of serious injury lurking over your shoulder (well, in some places, maybe so!).

I'm also a downhill skier. Sometimes it's hours to drive in the worst icy and snowy conditions to go ski.

Your level of passion for something will either drive you or stop you.

Yeah, your right. I used to drive 3 hours, ski for no more than 5 hours, then drive 3 hours home. Alone.
