Room Owner Holds a Grudge for 21 Months -- Pathetic

I guess I simply do not understand.
Until May '02 (21 months ago) I was employed as Manager of a Pool Room. On Monday following a large tournament (100 players), the owner and I got into a tiff (He wanted to re-hire an employee who had been fired for threatening me with bodily harm) and he requested that I return his key. I understood his request to mean I had been dismissed so I filed for un-employment. His response was that "No one will ever collect un-employment from me" so I filed for arbitration and won. I was also banned (86'd) from the Room.

Fast forward to today -- At Tony Annigoni's request, I went to that Room to assist with a tournament, Laptop and printer in hand. I considered that the owner would continue to ban me some 21 months later, but what the hell I thought, he couldn't be that petty, could he ???

Unbelievably, the owner walked up to me and simply said "You have to leave". No conversation about "How are you" or anything. I gave him a big grin, shook my head, and packed up.

Tony A. was visibly upset and extremely embarassed that I was treated like that. Numerous players were also very surprised at the treatment.

Guess I won't try again to return to that Room. There are enough other Rooms in the area.

Troy...~~~ Thanks for letting me vent... :)

Just playing devil's advotate here, you didn't go into any detail about the "Tiff" you guys had. Any reason? did you fire the guy or did the owner? If you fired him, was it sustained by the owner? How much time lapsed between the firing and his wanting to rehire the guy? Was it the same day? Did the owner take your side or the fired guys side. Many variables omitted.

Pathetic Room Owner

Troy,
There Used To Be A Place In San Leandro Called "the Boomerang". Two Guys Both In Wheelchairs Owned It. If You Looked Sideways They Would Call You A Parasite And Throw You Out Of The Joint.
Then You Had To Take A 2 Or 3 Week Break And Go In With A Big Apology And They Would Let You Back In. I Can Attest To That Because I Felt Like I Was Stuck In One Of Those Hotel Revolving Doors. It's All About Ego And They Want To Dominate The Situation. Five Will Get You Ten You Play Better Than Him, Or Are More Popular Than Him. He Will Never Grow Out Of That , It Is The Bully Syndrome.
If There Are Enough Guys There That You Enjoy Being With Fake The Apology And Continue Having Fun.
If Not The Heck With Him It Is His Loss Not Yours. There Are Literally Hundreds Of Places You Can Play With Some Great People To Be With

$Bill,

If you were a clinical psychiatrist, you could get $200 an hour to listen to the answers to those questions? Sounds like another dead beat pool yarn to me? I gave it one yawn but it really deserves two yawns and a knife and fork.

Good point Green Guy. All I need is the Sheepskin, LOL.

My old small town bar had a situation where the manager was fired, replaced by a different manager, then 6 months later the new manager was canned to be replaced by the old one lmao. This is more common than u think, i don't understand why you went back in the first place. It's amazing what bs people can get fired for, used to i believed anyone who got fired was probably a bad apple but 2 people i know and respect got fired for childish reasons, or shall we say encouraged to resign, to cover their behinds with unemployment claims.
Some business owners think they are gods, I was playing pool at my normal hang out one night, and people would tear off small peices of talc to take to their tables, and the owner would come in a couple times a month on the weekends, and he walked by my table and saw some talc on the floor and all but accused me of tearing it off the cone and knocking it to the floor just cause it happened to be by my table. It was the best place to play pool in town, i didn't go back in there for nearly 2 years after they raised all the other tables into town to $1 a game which i refuse to pay unless they get some new equipment.

I've never had that problem. I've been kicked out of plenty of bars but not poolrooms. Even in poolrooms where I was a complete stranger, everyone was nice to me. I guess I'm just lucky.

Room Owner

Hi Troy,

Early last year, we had a exhibition at our room. One of the "regulars", who has played virtually daily in the room since it opened about 15 years ago, chose not to pay the $30 entry fee and did not attend. The room manager has not spoken with him since! It may be petty to some (sorry green guy) but with the economy the way it is, no player should be the enemy of an establishment open to the general public. Next time, visit the room with a local law enforcement official. Let the owner explain why you are not welcome. Then sue the bastard!

Wrong Kid. You trap the guy. Doesn't gamble? He will if it's laid down right. Virtually anyone can be trapped. Doesn't have to be pool. Find out what other games he likes and find a better player. Don't get mad, get the cash.

When I traveled the country I had phone #s for the top players of any game you could think of. If you had an arm-wrestler, bet enough and I had Paul Anderson's # in my wallet. If you don't know who Paul Anderson was, ask your parents/"YIKES"Grand-Parents, LOL.

Your pathetic apology to Allison thread is way worse, I don't know why you're complaining.

Thanks for the feedback guys. One, I was simply helping Tony Annigoni with his tournament. Second, in a way I was also helping the Room Owner by trying to make the event a success. As I said, I considered it a possibility that I was still 86'd after nearly 2 years, but didn't really think the Owner could possibly be that petty. How wrong I was.

The "tiff" came about when I asked a fellow employee when he was going to finish something that was his job to complete. He went ballistic. Room Owner's wife overheard most of the tirade and fired the guy. About 4 weeks later the Owner complained that since he could not get employees and since the fired guy suggested he would commit suicide, the Owner wanted to hire him back. I just didn't want someone behind me who had threatened me with bodily harm even if that threat was probably empty.

What I think set the Owner off on me was that I won the unemployment arbitration case after he said "No one will ever collect unemployment from me".

As far as "Grime" is concerned, ignore it and maybe it will disappear. He is a typical NIH, Not Invented Here. He posts about some real inane topics, but goes off if someone posts something and he doesn't agree. I guess that's his right. Grime is the real yawner IMO.

Hemi,

I gain more respect for you daily!!! My thought processes just don't work that way but, what a great idea. Sure would cost a lot less and get better results.

Incidently, I asked my local friend about Lambert. He swears the room name was Lambert's. He didn't remember Greenway Billiards at all. He's slightly older than I. When I hit fifty many years ago, he told me something would be the first thing to go. I (he) wish (es) I (he) could remember what it was.

Sup Kid? Lambert had another pool room called Lambert's after the Greenway days. The reason it was called Greenway was because it was on Greenwell Springs Rd.

LastTwo (WHAT?) Joints,

You don't really think Allison pays any attention to you, Wally or me do you?
If you do you must be using what you been selling. YAWN YAWN Anything is better than a discussion of pool cues but this thread is not much better!

Cheers,

Gremlin

Gremlin,

You posted 4 times on this, "YAWN YAWN" thread. What's up with that?

SOLD Rick, let's go. Green Guy does know a ton of folks. Don't he. How bout it Grem? You up for a road trip?

I used to go to a pool room where there was always action. The owner of the place was always promoting it which was great. However, it never took much for the owner to get pissed off at someone. When he did get pissed, he'd 86 the player and that usually meant for life, not just till he cooled off. Eventually, he 86ed almost all the good action players. The place was dying on the vine! Now, about 10 owners later, it's a real s@*hole place. Unfortunately, anyone with a little money can be a proprieter and there are no other real qualifications.
