Can someone help me please. I am converting my garage into a room for my table. I have to remove it from the room it is in to convert that into a bedroom.

The question I have is how much room is recommended on each side of the table. I have an 8' Olhausen table.

I like to have a minimum of cuestick length + 6" (58" + 6" = 64") per side beyond the playing surface.

So, if an 8' table has a 44" x 88" playing surface, then the room would have to be at a minimum for comfort:

Width: 44 +128 = 14' 4"
Length: 88 + 128 = 18'

That would be a minimum for comfort. Diehards always want more (for chairs, more room, etc.). Many will settle with slightly less but will have some discomfort.

Freddie <~~~ don't add 10' to the dimensions and don't go to those "minimum room size" sites

room for table

Ideally, you want 60 inches (5 ft) of free space on all sides of your table.

The easiest way to figure it is for a 4 1/2 x 9 you want your room to be 14.5 x 19 feet. 4 x 8 = 14 x 18 feet, etc.

These are the minimum guidelines I've always been taught anyway. Hope this helps.

It's time to unteach. It really is. You'll end up 2" shorter on the width than the length with the old and incorrect method (because of the inherent math error that a table is never twice as long as its width), and someone who has gone through to ask the expert advise from this forum will get duped.

It needs to be right, IMO.

Ok, that really answers what I needed. My garage is 18.5' x 21' so it should work.

The other question I have is that I really would like a suspended light over the table. I prefer flourescent lighting as I don't notice shadows as much. Is lighting on the ceiling (8') sufficient or should I find a way to hang the lights, which by the way I have a hard time figuring out what type of light to do this with?

Time to sell the 8' and get a 9' Pro AM Diamond!!!!

Freddie <~~~ glad to help spend your money

oh I know. My friend has one and I spend more time at his place than mine. I have thought about it alot lately.

You need to get that bad boy, TX BAD BOY! Sounds like you already know that nothing beats that Diamond Pro. You've got plenty of room for it, that's for sure.
