since i moved to northern maryland, i have not found but a couple of pool rooms in the area and both are 45 minutes or more away (Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hill, PA and Top Hat in Towson, MD) - does anyone know of any other locations nearby that have a nine foot table on hand to practice?

thanks in advance.

Since you are in Northern MD and you live 45 minutes from Top Hat, you must either live very close to PA or very close to DE.

I know in PA there are not a lot of rooms that would be closer. There is (or was) Ivory Billliards in York PA when I lived in that area. I am not sure if it is still around; however, I don't think it would be much more than 5 - 10 minutes closer than Top Hat if you live near the PA line. Personally, I would drive the extra few minutes for Top Hat (or Kelly's on Harford Road).

If you live up I-95, closer to Delaware, there was a room that Mr. Wilson and I played at near Aberdeen that should be much closer than the Top Hat. Dave is from that area so he could probably tell you the name as I am not real familiar with the rooms in that area.

My guess is that you are closer to Delaware since you are the same distance from Drexeline. If so, the pool room near Aberdeen should be the closest to you, assuming it is still there. However, I must say from my limited experience, Top Hat is still a much better pool room.

Good luck... Sorry I could not be more helpful.

How close are you to Glen Burnie? Big Daddy's is one of the few pool rooms left.

From my house it is about an hour and 20 minutes.

In laurel there is Side Pockets (formally known as Champions) for me that is about an hour away.

Thankfully I have a table in my house.

you are close for sure - i am about 15 minutes max from the Delaware border (still in Maryland) - Pockets i think was the name of the place in Aberdeen and i was told it closed. not sure how far York, PA is but will check that one out too. i was thinking there had to be something near Wilmington or something similar, but everywhere i checked, things were closed. looks like i am gonna have to give in and open a room ;o)

Hi Tony - thanks for the info - I played at both places when I lived in Columbia - Big Daddy's was about 20 minutes away at that time and now it is well over an hour.

Royal Billiards in Claymont, De., eight Gold Crowns, a couple are shimmed. Not in too bad of shape, playable. It's in a small shopping center about a mile off the Naamans Road I95n exit. Carpenter Plaza, I think.
There's another one about a mile away in Boothwyn, Pa., Riely's Concord Billiards, with thirteen GC's, some shimmed. He's about a mile and a half off I95N Chichester exit.

thanks a ton. will have to check these out - spoke with Matt Krah over the weekend at Drexeline and he mentioned a room that started with a "C" and could not remember for the life of me. it may have been the town for all i could remember cause i was in the midst of too many things at once. i appreciate your response as well.

No poolroom in York, PA

Not that it matters for you as you are too far away but Ivory Billiards room in York, PA is closed and never to reopen. There are no pool rooms in York or Lancaster anymore. You have to belong to clubs such as the Yankee Club or Eagles club to play 9 foot tables in or near York, PA. Good luck finding a room as it seems more and more are closing all the time. Pretty deprssing if you ask me.

What about D and D family Billiards in Thorndale PA

59 N. Bailey Rd, Thorndale Pa. 19372

As you are close to Delaware, this could be close. The owner posts on this site too.

Riley's Concord is nice

Riley's is a good place to play. The rails sometimes play faster than you expect but... They also offer a little local tourney on Wednesday nights - $10 entry, loser pays $6 table time.

Where is it located?
What are the rates?
When is the Grand Opening?

Oh, wait, you didn't open it yet. ;)

This is a great room to play. The owner is a great guy and really caters to the players as well.
Lots of tournaments too. It's not close to home for me but I try to get there as often as possible. As soon as my fall baseball league is over I will start attending the tournament at D & D. Check this room out when you get the chance.

It was the wrong side of MD for you, but I was in Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville night before last.

9:00 pm on a Wednesday night.

There were 30 or so people playing the unhandicapped 9-ball tournament
There were 30 or so people playing league
There were 30 or so people playing poker
There seemed to be a group of 20 or so as some kind of get together.
There were probably another 100+ people at the bar or eating or casually renting a table or just socializing....

it was a pretty busy place with nice equipment

not Cheers, it was in Delaware or Penn - haven't even heard of Cheers. if I am in the area, Top Hat gets my vote - definitely a players room.

thanks though.
