Rough guess on value of R2 schon?

A friend of mine has what seems to be an early R2 schon as it has the stitch rings and sharp points. It has had the butt cap replaced and was refinished by Proficient a few years ago. To be perfect it would probably need refinished again as I'm sure it's got a few dings and scratches. I'd love to get it off of him before he loses it or trades it for a case of beer or something stupid. But I don't want to go giving him way more then it's worth either as that would just be stupid.

Before anyone asks no I'm not looking to resell it, it's actually a cue I wanted to buy back when it was first refinished but I didn't have the funds.

So anyone want to venture a guess of it's market value?

The Blue Book values an R2 in 70% condition at $415. It values one in 90% condition at $640.

Not having the Schon imprinted buttcap will hurt the value. Although Schon would charge about $50 to replace it, Evan probably will refuse to do the work because it has been worked on by another cue maker. You could try removing the replacement buttcap and sending him the cue that way.

If it's an R-2, it doesn't have veneers on the points. Here are some estimates: With one shaft and in excellent condition, they sell for about $600 with stitch rings. Without the right buttcap, if the buyer is knowledgeable, it will lower the value about $100.

Actually

Most pre CNC Schons will bring a little less than the same new version of that same cue for the most part if they are in good condition. I guess most Schon buyers would rather just buy new. When you consider alot of new Schons sell well below retail the resale of a older Schon can sometimes bring more but usually not. But your cue has issues $400 is almost to much.

If memory serves me right evan refused to work on it the first time, or wanted some rediculess price to refinish it. That's why proficient did it instead. $300-400 was what I was thinking of paying for it so I guess I was in the ballpark.

Thanks everyone,
Brandon

I don't know if I'de be overly concerned about the name in the butt cap, I bought this old Schon new in the early eighties and it has no name in the cap?
