How can I roughen up the linen wrap alittle without damaging it. It 's like glass.

huh?

I personally like a "glass-like" finish. When it is perfectly clean, of course.

But, to remove this characteristic, in my mind, is to cause damage, that is not easily undone.

If your concern is some sliding in your grip hand, that can (will) be achieved by cleaning and polishing, and on some cues I use No. 9 clearcoat polishing compound, a very small amount on a VERY soft, and very slightly damp cloth.

When I do this, I get more friction from the "plastic" finish, than I do with an Irish Linen wrap!
And, if done properly, it may even look better than original.

Anyway, I threw this out for discussion...

just get some pariffin wax and apply it to the linen and burnish it in with some notebook paper. this gives the wrap a tacky feel if that's what you're looking for.

Oops

Oops, my mistake, I thought you were referring to a covered wrap.

Never mind...

Some players take wax paper and fold it into a small square and rub it up and down on the linen wrap. Keep turning the paper to a fresh side and continue doing this until you get the desired feel you want on the linen wrap. You may have to repeat it later until the wrap gets broken in.
