I personally like a "glass-like" finish. When it is perfectly clean, of course.
But, to remove this characteristic, in my mind, is to cause damage, that is not easily undone.
If your concern is some sliding in your grip hand, that can (will) be achieved by cleaning and polishing, and on some cues I use No. 9 clearcoat polishing compound, a very small amount on a VERY soft, and very slightly damp cloth.
When I do this, I get more friction from the "plastic" finish, than I do with an Irish Linen wrap!
And, if done properly, it may even look better than original.
