Router wont turn on/stuck

Made a run on the lathe, turned it off, reset it and it turned on but made a grinding noise like it was hitting something. Took it apart and when I wiggle it a little it comes loose and spins for a second then locks up again. Now it won't turn on at all. I'm guessing the button that that you press to tighten and loosen the nut might be getting stuck? Ideas? Thanks

My guess is one of the bearings has seized up - probably the bottom one.
Order new bearings, tear it apart, replace the upper and lower bearings, and reassemble.
Or buy a new one or used one on CraigsList.

Good luck,

Hold the router with the spring locking button facing down
and see if the router will turn by hand, turn the router with the
button facing up and try to turn it by hand, if it locks up it is
probably a broken locking pin or as stated earlier a bad bearing
but I have never had a bad bearing totally lock up the router.

Those locking pins are easy to brake but it is pretty simple to fix.

I have broken the lock pin and the router seized up... I never figured out when I broke it. It was a ***** to take apart with the piece of the pin stuck in there.

I have had the lower bearing get rough and noisy but the top bearing has ground the router to a halt. The metal shielded top bearings seem to last longer.

I've had brushes go bad and stop the rotation on a Porter Cable router also. When you take it a part you might as well replace the brushes at the same time if they show any wear. Easy to do while you're in there.
