Routers

Anyone ever try the Rigid router? They are considerably cheaper and it appears you can change the brushes real easy.

I have been using the Rigid R2400.
It is smaller than the Ryobi TR31-1 but runs at 30,000 rpm, has a built in speed control, and is a bit quieter. Using a 6 tooth slot cutter I find you can cut the rpm back by about 30% and it really runs smooth and quiet.
For inlays you dont need a lot of power and a small DC motor will work but for the 6 tooth slot cutter and doing tapering you need the power of a router.

How did you fit that Ridgid on your Taper Shaper, Willee?
I saw that at Home Depot but it has a slittle thinner body than the Ryobi.
Did you make a Delrin collet for it?
That router can probably be used as a variable speed grinder too.
thnx

Just reviving an old topic

I've been looking at quieter routers to replace the porter cable laminate trimmer that came standard with my deluxe cuesmith. I bought the Ridgit R2400 at Home Depot a couple of days ago. Here's the comparison.

The porter cable laminate trimmer runs at 30000 rpm and with no-load, the noise level was a whopping 97 decibels. The Ridgit R2400 noise level varies depending on the rpm speed. At its lowest speed of 20000 rpm, the noise level is 86 decibels - that is half as loud as the porter cable. At its highest speed at 30000 rpm, it is 92 decibels - still quieter than the porter cable.

I've read the product manual for the kress router and their claim is 77 decibels with no load. That is half as quiet as the Ridgid R2400.
