So yesterday I'm at my mens club playing 9ball- money ball. The club is in an old building and when it gets crowded the wooden floor tends to vibrate. So the guy before me misses a billiard out of turn and leaves the six ball, a money ball, hanging in the pocket. So, I step to the table, and sink the four, then the five...I left a simple shot on the six,,,,I stroked the cue ball and the six fell into the pocket before the cue ball got there! The cue ball then scratched. Of course a lot of adult beverage conversation ensued about how it should be handled. I really didn't push it because I was up a fair amount but I thought the six and the cue should be reset and the shot be taken over. We ended up that the six was spotted, but the next player got ball in hand.

So, what do you think?

I think you got hosed, but when you're ahead in a $$ match, it is a good thing to be a good sport with the other player's money.

6 is restored, you get the cue ball in the restored position, and you still get to make the shot.

Object ball is considered on the table if there for 5 seconds or more. If it falls in after the 5 or more seconds, it gets restored as close to the original position.

It is in the World Standardized Rules.

Okay, you have me confused. I think you mean the six gets restored, not spotted, correct?
 
Put both balls back(restore) and shoot again, no penalty in WPA and BCAPL rules. Here is language in WPA.

A ball may settle slightly after it appears to have stopped, possibly due to slight imperfections in the ball or the table. Unless this causes a ball to fall into a pocket, it is considered a normal hazard of play, and the ball will not be moved back. If a ball falls into a pocket as the result of such settling, it is restored as closely as possible to its original position. If a settling ball falls into a pocket during or just prior to a shot, and this has an effect on the shot, the referee will restore the position and the shot will be replayed. The shooter is not penalized for shooting
while a ball is settling.

 
Thanks guys. That is what I thought, but like I said, I didn't want to push it and get people all po'd. I did just fine even without that hit....

agree. only problem is now all of those people think that really is the right thing to do, and they will tell all their friends and confuse them too.
 
Nah.....we are all too old and fortified with adult beverages so probably no one even remembered what happened :D
