rules question

How many different official rule sets for 8 ball are there? Also how many of them are a loss of game if you scratch while shooting the 8 even when you don't pocket it?

As for how many, I guess you have to count the WSR and the rules that each of the major US leagues use. I'm guessing that totals five or six in the US.

WPA/BCA/WSR
CSI/BCAPL/USAPL
APA
TAP
VNEA
?????
 
and 1152 different bar rules where all of them you lose on a scratch on the 8.
in 8 ball you must know all the rules before you play no matter where it is.

I'm not talking bar rules. More official league rules.
 
My guess is scratching on the 8-ball resulting in a loss of game was after the introduction of coin op bar box tables....just move on to the next game if the 8-ball is made early.
 
Too many rules especially when you have to ask a bartender or employee the rules in each establishment you go into.

I have people ask me how I play and I play by the original rules. In regards to scratching while playing the 8 will result in a loss.

I play the game normally except for one condition.....you get ball in hand instead of being behind the kitchen on scratches. I may resort going back to behind the kitchen.
 
too many diffirent rules, and this is the reason i don't play 8 ball. Too many butt hurt rules.
