Run This (53)

Here's mine Jeff ...

Good pattern, I did consider using the 8 in the side, yet I think I prefer using the nine ending with 6-3-11 and gaining a slight cut angle to the nine resulting in good CB speed to the rack. Neither the 8 nor the 9 is ideal.

Ball in hand anywhere on the table.

I think it is mistake on this table to hit the cushion except to bounce off the cushion when playing the 3. Begin with 2-8-7-12, and break with the 9.

I like that one a lot. I kept trying to use the ball in hand to get rid of the 3, but with the 6 right there, it's not really that big of a problem ball.

Good pattern Bob. A few things I personally like to avoid whenever I can is a shot that brings me across the position line especially with side pocket shots.. Going from the 7 to the 12 would do that unless you played the 12 up table.

I also don't like shooting the 9 as a right handed player unless it ends up with a short steeper angle so I can reach it. If I get that angle, I also personally have problems with kind of shooting blind into the corner pocket with the 9 in that I'm looking away from the pocket when I stroke the shot.

Matter of preference for sure :)

Bottom of Rack Break?

Doesn't anybody like that bottom-of-the-rack break shot. I imagined the 8 in the lower-left corner as the setup shot.

I don't like the 8 as the key ball. If you are going to get to the lower left area for the 7, you have to have a pretty good angle on the 8 to the lower left pocket. The 12 and 2 give you an opportunity to get there, but it requires some precision. To break with the 8, I would also look at 9, 8-in-the-side and go one or two cushions to get on the 7.

Here's what I came up with. Looking over the layouts so far, Bob seems to have already suggested this beginning. I've been playing lately with the thought of simply clearing up congestion. When balls are too close together, like the 2,12 here, I want to remove one of them to create a spaced out look on the table. It's been working pretty well for me. In the past I've had a hard time actually making choices when there are too many choices available, such as when 12 balls are separated from one another and there are shots available all over the table. This congestion clearing is one of the things that is narrowing the choices down for me.

Hey Big Cat. Nice playing last night. I liked the patterns you chose, and man can you shoot. I wish I had eyes like that. Also, nice run here. Congrats on the win.

Thank you for the kind words.

I am a little bit embarrased at how the 10 ball set ended. But it is my own fault for putting myself in that situation. I will know better next time ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed the live stream. I was wondering if you were watching the straight pool set and thinking to yourself "maybe I should put that layout in a thread" :). I've been playing pool for about 12 years without ever taking a lesson, but I recently started taking straight pool lessons from Rodney "Babe" Thompson. Not sure if you know who that is, but he is a living legend in the world of staight pool and was taught the game by none other than Frank "The Sailor" Stellman. He has forgotten more than I will ever know about the game of 14.1. I do everything I can to pick his brain. But, he has definitely helped me with my pattern play in 14.1 (I hoped it showed a little last night ;) ).

You know it's funny you mention my eyes, as I'm almost legally blind (I'm finger blind, if you know what that means). I was just born with bad eyesight. But I've worn glasses and contacts my whole life. With my contacts, my vision is 20/15. So I am lucky that I am able to see as well as I can with such bad natural vision.

As for my shooting, thanks. I've worked VERY, VERY hard on my mechanics and I think that is what helps me pocket balls.

Thanks again,
Ray

ok... here goes... I'd love to post a cuetable.com version, but it's not working for me on my mac. anyway... so I'd play the following: place the white next to the 6 and play 3 down the rail, stop out for 11, then down for 7, up of 2 rails for 12, then stop shots on 6, 8 and 2 to leave 9. I always try to play the more difficult positional shots early on so there are more chances to land on balls if the positional shot was not perfect. I also always try to leave the last 2 or 3 balls as simple stop shot positions wherever possible.

Bob, I chose the same path as you did.

Hal
