I have a question..

There is a very nice Runde cue post in the For Sale section and the subject of Runde/Schon came up. I could use some education here if someone knows...

As far as I know, Schon cues are now high-volume production made cues. Meaning, they are made in a shop by lots of workers. Not knocking them because Schon cues are still very well made cues and have maintained a very high level of consistency.

Isn't Bob Runde a solo cuemaker nowadays and just making these himself or with an assistant? Something like buying a hand made cue by Dan Janes or buying an 'off the rack' Joss for example.
 
Actually, to correct you on a couple of points... Schon cues are NOT a high volume cue. There are a total of FIVE people who work at Schon. That includes Evan Clarke the owner who has been there for a long long time, and who made a good percentage of the Schon cues during Bob Rundes time at Schon.
But you are correct that Runde is solo. He doesnt take orders that I know of. He just makes cues that he wants to, and sells what he makes.

How many cues does Schon put out per year do you know?
 
Not sure of their numbers, but it is a very small fraction of companies like McDermott or Viking. Those companies are turning out thousands of cues per year, I would estimate Schon at well under a thousand. Probably in the neighborhood of 500-750 cues. Thats about 100-150 cues per employee per year which is doable for a full time job. But again thats just an estimation on my part.
Everybody sees Schon cues on all the dealer websites and thinks they are in stock....... Call and try to order one sometime. Most are not in stock except for some of the plainer cues and some of the LTD releases.

Evan was at Schon - the same time as Runde.

Evan designed and made a high percentage of the "Runde" era Schon cues.

Runde was there when they switched to making "inlayed/rounded" points.

I still consider Schon a high output "custom" cue.
