I keep seeing this game pop up in my YouTube feed. It is a Russian Pyramid game with 5 red balls in the center of the rack and according to Google translate it is called Corona. I can't figure out what the rules are and why there are the red balls. It just seems like a regular pyramid game. Anybody know what this game is and how it is played?

Google is now calling it crown and the channel is called billiardschool. It is a russian channel and I can't figure out how to get the link from my phone but it has tons of videos on this game.

Here's the playlist

But unless you are cataloging all cue sports ever played, I don't understand your interest in this one. What do you find interesting about it? I just watched one of the videos on the playlist for a while and scoring was a rare event.
I watch a lot of pyramid games and this one just caught my attention but couldn't figure out the rules set. I find it interesting because it is different, and not the same old games played here in the US like 8 and 9 ball. Sorry

I played Russian Pyramid in Ukraine for 11 weeks when I was there, a long vacation. In Dnepropetrovsk, this was in 2016, I couldn't find a pool table in the country but there are many bilyat rooms. The ones i frequented in two different states/oblasts were both big rooms had atleast 20 or more of these monster tables. For the first days I sucked, but got better and beat some of the locals, none of them had ever met an American before. Balls are generally fired in to bust through the tight pockets just a few mm bigger then the ball. About 1/8" Or 3/16" felt so stupid when I played the first day.

And the size! Good Lord! I look at a snooker pocket and think 'no fn way'!

Did anyone play with five red balls on the table?

I played for about an hour once. It was quite a challenge. The shots you want to play are literally impossible.

No the game is mainly played the way you see on youtube. 2 variations. One where you can hit any ball and one where you use the yellow ball as a dedicated cue ball. Either making a normal shot or caroming the cue ball in the pocket, which is usually the way points are scored, 8 balls wins it like one pocket.

I'm familiar with the game. The red balls are worth 2 points. If I'm not mistaken, the winner is first to 11 points.
Yes, from what I have been seeing the reds are worth 2 point and they have been playing to 8 points, but I saw a match with Diana Mironova where she pockets a red with 5 points to go and it rewarded her 3 points winning here the game, I couldn't figure that one out... I guess I need to learn Russian. lol
But from what I can tell is that is played pretty much like combined pyramid or Moscow pyramid just that those red balls score different.

pyramid is a kind of -nice- challenge ! adaptation takes time when you come from pool, a bit easier when you come from the carom disciplines, because of the bigger size of the balls you play usually... because pyramid balls are huge ...
big table, fast cloth, damn pockets, heavy super big balls, so heavy & long cues ...
free pyramid is a nice game, real fun to play , more offensive.
dynamic and combined are hard, you need a lot of patience , defensive games ...
5 red balls modify the strategy, a variant...
