Ryan Stone

Play in these conditions?

This is just a little shout out to Ryan. I remember him coming into a weekly tournament at 13 years of age. He was a top three finisher in the tourney then. He was always polite and had a high revving engine that couldn't stand the wait for the next match or game. You could tell he was consumed with the game in a good way.

His parents chaperoned him to many tournaments and with each passing year he climbed the ladder in ability. The best in town were playing him and teaching him. Soon he was teaching them. Ryan keeps a low profile to the general public concerning his game, but the confidence in his game is apparent.

I don't personally know him, I am merely an acquaintance that crosses paths with him playing the game. Ryan Stone is a good egg in my book.

Last year at the Derby City Classic Ryan finished 81st Bank Pool Event. This year ninth through fourteenth.

Last year he finished 45th One Pocket Event. This year seventh through tenth.

Last year he finished 63rd 9-Ball Event. This year fourth through sixth.

Virtually a unknown he has challenged the best and was in the running for the Derby City overall.

What a difference a year makes, and it makes you wonder what happens next year if he stays the course. Ryan Stone could become the next Shane Van Boening to emerge on the pool scene. The way I look at it it's just a matter of time.

I saw him beat Shannon in the bank tourney and watched him here and there throughout the week. He's definitely a good shot.

I watched him play a couple of matches. He is a solid player for sure. Seems like he has his head on straight as well. IMHO.

Yep, he's a real strong young player....I knew about him and sweated a couple of his games - and I congratulated him on his tournament finishes.

I remember playing Ryan in a local tourney in Ohio and getting absolutely demolished by him. Terrific player, wish him the best.

I asked Ryan if he was getting ready for Derby City months ahead of time. His answer was a short, "Yes." But the look in his eye was more like answering, "Thats a stupid question." I could be wrong inferring too much from a nonverbal expression and the real answer could fall to either side of the equation. It probably for the most part was nothing at all.

I just hope he stays dedicated to the game in Thorsten Hohmann kind of way and that was to what he was inferring to.

To me the most impressive thing to me about his play at the Derby. Is that Ryan is going to college full time. I talked with him in Nov. at a tourney. Ryan said then that he didn't know how well he was going to play because school was his top priority. It's good to see a young player with his priorites in order.

Thats good additional info Milk Man and you are so right in that he has his priorities in order. He should be getting close to that degree and that reminds me I forgot to ask him what his major was...

That's always great news to hear, that future American stars such as Ryan Stone and Mary Rakin are placing college over pool.

If I'm not mistaken, Ryan Stone finished ahead of SVB in all three DCC disciplines. Hope to hear more from this kid in the future...at least after he finishes school.

Must be a lot of good players in your area. Remind me to stay away from Dayton. Isn't that Jason Miller's town also?

Yes Jason Miller, Joe Brown, Frank Ruby, and before he passed Steve Cook.

Our own AZer Jay Helfert & Freg Agnir have had time in the Gem City as well.

Some young up a comers in Little Billy Thorpe !0 years old and Lizzy Lovely who I believe is 14 years old. Both were at the DCC. Little Billy hammed it up often in front of the Action Report cameras.

Visiting often from nearby Springfield is a legend in George Rood.

I know I probably missing someone, if so feel free to add...

P.S. Our own AZer Joe Koontz is to modest of his skills and deserves mention, as for myself I don't pass the looks test.

He told me his major is computer techlonogy or something along those lines.

Yes, Dayton is home to Jason Miller. Liz Lovely is also from Dayton she won three or four in a row on the Jacoby Tour. I don't believe she is 18 yet and is one to watch.

Scott,

How dare you not include me on the list of Dayton players? You should be ashamed!:D Wait, maybe you just wanted me to stay under the radar?!;)

By the way, Kelly does posses a jam up game himself...ask Richard H. ;)

Are you ducking her Kelly? I can't believe you are ducking a 14, maybe 15 year old girl! ;) :D

I don't wanna hurt your feelings or anything but is it alright if I bet on her? :p
