Another Perspective/BCA Leagues & Programs

Quote Brunswick:
"We are confident that the sale has strengthened the billiard industry," said newly elected BCA President John Stransky.

Above; is the latest quote from the AZ website about the sale of the BCA league system. Now the BCA, is made up of industry, mfg, BCA Master Academy owners etc. and their agenda now, is pulling away from the players/leagues/and some programs for billiards, then why would pulling away from what got you where your at today strengthen your position?? Is it just me or are they "industry" not making much sense??????

IE: How can an organization that used to be served by the sport, not support it, but only the industry??? God, it makes no sense industry thinking in such a way. I guess they are saying they can't strengthen the industry of play and the sport, it'll have to be the small players/guys/promoters that do. Now once things get rollling, then will they will turn back to us for help/whaterver to increase their sales, do you think we should then say "welcome aboard"???? BF

MOVE THE HALL OF FAME PLAQUES SOMEWHERE ELSE, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think the BCA has the credentials anymore to be its caretaker. BF

If you are not happy, vote with your feet, vote apa or tap, must move and go. There must be 50 ways, to leave your lover, just walk out the door jack.

If there is a lack of sense on this thread it is with the original poster. Learn to make some sense in a debate man, what a bunch of gibberish.

Celtic, to clarify the first thread:

If the industry is "strengthened" by the sale of the leagues and programs, then how could "not" supporting the sport "help" the billiard industry. BF

Bigfoot, The guy that runs Amazon.com, I think his name is Jeff Bazos or something like that, said in an interview once that Amazon.com would never have stores like Borders or Barnes & Noble - you know, physical retail stores, because he wanted to specialize in something particular. He thought that by specializing in one thing, in his case on-line book sales, you could do a better job.

Maybe the BCA is taking the same route. Maybe by the BCA specializing in representing the industry on the business side they will be better able to serve the people they represent. And likewise, maybe by separating the leagues from the business end of billiards, the leagues will be better served.

I could be very wrong... but I don't see what the fuss is about. This is one of those, "wait and see" things.

Bigfoot,

I don't follow or understand your post at all. Did you read the lastest neswclip about the sale on the home page of AZ? Did you go to the new BCA website and read Mark Griffin's comments?

It seemed obvious to me over the past couple years that the ownership of the BCA seemed in a rut and seemed as if they lost interest. Maybe I was wrong, but that was the perception I had.

Reading Griffin's comments tells me that the man is in love with pool. Is intelligent and has the wherewithall to make a go of it. It is no easy task but he appears to have done his homework.

Just getting the website up and running in such a short time is an accomplishment. And the offices will be in Las Vegas, the Mecca of big time pool. Where he will be able to wrangle deals with the Casinos.

As far as I can see nothing will be changed at first anyway so why the big concern Bigfoot?

And keep in mind that the alternate to selling the organization was to file bankruptcy and fold it. That has happened to bigger organizations than the BCA.

The FUSS is: relating to their own written bylaws which guide their organization/actions, and in turn are needed/used to determine their actions, quotes are from the approved June 30, 2003 "Constitution and By-Laws of the Billiard Congress of America:
"The mission is to govern and promote the sport of billiards (pocket, three cushion, and snooker) in the United States and World-Wide by establishing rules, promoting and sanctioning amateur and professional tournaments, and helping to increase the awareness of and participation in the sport to all people, while working with the entire billiards community to increase the over all growth of billliards."

Now does that statement from Article II Section 2.1 sound like what the BCA has been doing according to their bylaws for the sport??
In the next section 2.2
line item
(3) To elevate billiard sports to their highest level nationally and worldwide.

Now Vicki, do you think thats what the old BCA has been doing for the sport, NOT, they only do for the industry.
Do you like it when somebody tells you something but doesn't do it, its in their by-laws but they don't follow em unless it fits their (board members) agenda. And the big sanfu, is if you take care of the sport that got you to this point it will take care of you. The existing BCA on 4345 Beverly Drive Ste D 80918 really just uses the sport too sell more stuff but in turn will not directly support the sport when their by-laws say the 'WILL SUPPORT THE SPORT" thats all I'm saying.
